Love that big Yama York sound! Also, praise to Marina on piano. Probably the best musicality while still nailing the notes I’ve heard from the accompaniment

Outstanding playing by both you and your excellent accompanist. I especially enjoyed the "cadenza" in III ( the down-pedaled piano "ring" effect was the best I have ever noted in a live recording) and the very end of II, which was nicely in time and clear. Bravo!

I like the minimalist nature of your first valve slide catch, as I also play on a large CC and need to keep my first valve slick, but when it comes time to empty water from your first slide, how do you remove the string without a Velcro attachment?

Hello! I know this is an older video but I'm curious to what your specific valve oil blend is. I'm a big fan of Resilience and Yamaha synthetic oils, and I actually bought a 32oz of Resilience light, so I'm curious as to what works best for you. Thanks!
@tubistjoseph4 ай бұрын
The oils you’re using are good quality and clean. If they work, then you’re good to go. Because one of my instruments was older, and the tolerance between the valve and casing was not as tight-fitting as a new instrument, I would sometimes add a few drops of Hetman 14 to the Yamaha (light/regular/vintage) to increase the viscosity (some older instruments need a significantly more viscous oil mixture). Doing this kept the oil on the valves for longer and kept the valves moving smoothly. I no longer do this with my current instruments, but still recommend it for some.

Sounds Great. May I ask why are you moving one of your slide ? For tremolo effect ?
@tubistjoseph4 ай бұрын
Moving the tuning slides helps with intonation. Unfortunately, tubas are not super in tune. Because of this, it’s important to take into account intonation tendencies of specific pitches and partials and make the necessary corrections as needed.

It's a beautiful instrument. Getting more comfortable with it each day... contrary to popular myth, it does not make your coffee for you. I still need to ground my own beans and go through the process every day.
