People aren't very good at statistics nor do most people pick what is most effective. Statistics are always relevant but new discoveries are important too

One thing I would say about picking bottom or mid tiers is that things are going to be different in actively updated games vs. games that don't get updates. Picking the inoffensive mid tier means that your main's best attributes are less likely to get stomped into the ground or thrown into some kind of irrelevancy next patch. Putting your time into learning a top tier is risking your time investment into their playstyle that might not work in the next patch. This is why I dropped Blue Vegeta in DBFZ.

General Knowledge about each character and the game's mechanics will always be better than a tier list. But, a tier list is one really good form of generalizing knowledge about the game and teaching you what mechanics are highly regarded in the meta.

This tier list is cool but I grinded Gordin on FE12 Normal on Lorenz in Chapter 1 and got him from level 7 from prologue to around level 14. I shot him like a hundred times and he eventually killed im'.

tbf, I think in a strategy guide it makes sense to remove stars for being "hard to use". like, it's a skill issue for sure but if you're using a strategy guide we shouldn't assume you have a lot of skill this being said, how do they give so much to Fae, making the best of her 30 limited uses isn't easy

I imagine that the guide is probably tiering on normal mode, whereas most fire emblem youtubers will tier on hard mode, which levels the playing field a bit between the hard mode bonus characters and the growth characters which become easier to feed kills to

+R player here (intermediate level, been around for around 4 years). I just wanted to say that Testament Baiken and Zappa are NOT the undisputed top 3 of the game, like sure they are all pretty busted (as everyone is in the game fr) but like their placements on the top 3 is not consistent at all. generally there is chars agreed upon being top 8 (Testament, Dizzy, Faust, Zappa, Baiken, Chipp, Millia, Axl), but with no definite order to them, and same for the rest of the characters, with opinions being really different from one high-level player to another (a lot of them also dont give a damn about tier lists, for the game is pretty damn balanced). not many people will argue that Robo-Ky isnt bottom 1 though lmao. he can still very much cook at high level that being said. cool vid tho! 🌝👍

I still need to watch the video, so i'll do a reply/edit when I do, but here's what I think At beginner level when players don't know what they're doing, Tiers don't matter much because it's a different language to them, and when they're getting beaten, it's not by the things that make characters top tier (unless it's literally Push 1 button to win) But as you start learning matchups, and climbing from Novice to Intermediate to High Level, Tiers are Very Real and matter more because when everyone knows how to deapnwith your gimmicks, you have less to work with. Very important at high level But at the absolute top of the pile, I think the importance wanes a bit, because those players know the game so well that they can work with whatever. They'll probably still pick someone between Mid and Top for tournaments (unless it's a character specialist, or a game like Guilty Gear +R where bottom tiers lile Bridget & Robo are Still fucked up), but they can work with just about anything when you're one of the gods of the game. Because i'm not that skilled, i'm still a Novice, so tiers might impact the will I can enforce, but I have a Lot of matchup knowledge to acquire before i get to intermediate (where it's harder to get away with gimmick bullshit)

In a nutshell, tier list matter but skill will always matter more.
