I had to finish this reaction in 3 different sessions because I wanted to give it my proper attention. I completely agree with you about how cathartic "Some Type of Skin" is. It's so hard to choose favorites on this album because I relate to so much of the lyrical content. Also, off topic, but has anyone ever told you that you have a beautiful nose? It complements the rest of your features perfectly. Respectfully, of course. lol. I don't mean to sound weird. I just can't help but notice a great nose. I love Aurora's nose, too. 😂

I think this is also my favorite Aurora album. Infections of a Different Kind (Step 1) has been hanging on for dear life when it comes to choosing between the two albums, but I think this album has finally won the battle for me. It took me a while, but I really love this album so much. It's such an incredible album - lyrically, musically, vocally, the theme (the heart, the color blue, western philosophy changing the way we think about the heart, etc.), and in terms of being her most personal album. And I love how much she explored and experimented on this album. She really explored so many different facets of her voice, and played around with genres we never thought we would hear her delve into. It's possibly her most important album. I really enjoyed your reaction and interpretation of the songs. Also, My Body is Not Mine is a collaboration with Tom Rowlands from The Chemical Brothers. Check out the credits. 😊

Aurora mentioned that when she's not touring she spends a lot of her life time in the studio...and I picked from this that she is really involved in arrangements and production......I've also seen a docunentary where she ¡s recording sounds and noises all over the place and she said she had something big with ryttm patterns and builds lil mischivious and super talented pretty lady Aurora is definitely a Jack of all trades production wise.....and she's tough she likes things done her way so she teams up with the right people to get things done hats off for the Beautiful Viking Fairy Queen she's absolutely one of the kind kudos her world runs on Love, Magic and Goodness, shit bro, we're so freaking fortunate this , I mean SHE is happening in our Lifetimes...long lve Aurora Asknes

About "Dreams", Aurora told that the story is about her during one of her first live. She faced many hardship, including the lost of three friends if I remember correctly. One was her 17' sweet heart, her first love killed during a mass shooting in high-school. Another commited suicide and I think another died from illness? I believe she's referring to these loved ones in "The Essence" too.

I see a lot of the songs on this album as doubling two perspectives - a human individual one, and nature's collective one (which calls back to the indigenous activists letter about the earth being our heart, and our heart beating with the earth). For example, "Earthly Delights" I see as humanity/Adam asking God, will you still be here after everything you've given me (nature) dies? And at the end, Nature is the one who responds "There is no God here without me. So will YOU be lonely when everything dies?" I see it as the commentary of humans striving for love of this mystical god in the sky, meanwhile we're killing nature who is really the one taking care of us and loving us through all these earthly delights. Also "My Body Is Not Mine" can be seen as both the individual disconnection from our bodies, as well as Nature saying her body is not hers, because we are using it for ur gain, objectifying it the way women's bodies are objectified as well. "The Blade" is about fighting for these soft hearts to protect them, including for the Earth. "A sword can cut both ways, but I gor sharp blades" I see as being about how rage can be blind, hurting everything and everyone indiscriminately, even yourself, or it can be sharp as a blade, which has only one sharp side and so only cuts where it has to cut, calculated and precise rage that is used to protect.

Here is what she said about Some Type Of Skin on BBC Radio where the song premiered: "This song is very much about the act of building our skin. So, I guess, finding the perfect balance between building up skin so you can protect what's soft in you against what's harsh in the world, but also making sure you let enough light in, so you can let what's beautiful into your soft points. And if you find the balance between both, I think life can be such a heavenly thing on Earth. But it's a lot to be human, I say it so much." She talked about Starvation in an interview on Norwegian radio: "This song begins, like quite a few of my songs, very earthy, down to earth, in the rhythms and in the vocals. But then the song takes you on a journey. In my mind it is that even art is now being attached by the technical, and the soul and essence of it is threatened, which I think is very dangerous. And this happens in the song, which is kind of fun." So I think she means that the EDM/techno beat at the end symbolizes the technical / AI taking over. And then personally I think the very abrupt ending of the song symbolizes "the web crashing". But I wish it had a real ending/outro, though I wouldn't mind that if it was 1 minute longer before that ending. You can see the live performance of Starvation at the Glastonbury festival on the BBC Music channel. She got Tom Rowlands from The Chemical Brothers to produce My Body Is Not Mine (and he is secondary producer on My Name). Here is a quote from Aurora from the latest NME interview on youtube: "I just texted him an evening, and I was like:'Tom, puke, vomit all over my song, please'. And he did. Like for six hours or four hours. Already four hours later, he sent me back and I kept everything." I like the possible dual meaning in that song: "I need no body" / "I need nobody".

This was fun, and a really great reaction and analysis😍 I absolutely love this album, AOTY imo, and her best so far, even though all her albums are great😍 She is the main producer on this album, but she has had some really good help from great artists/producers👍 Aurora and her guitarist Fredrik wrote and produced “A soul with no King” together. And she plays both piano and percussion👍 I highly recommend checking out the stripped down live performance at Vevo, Fredrik on Mandolin and Aurora on piano😍 Also the remix featuring NATURE, which she actually released before the album. I also recommend “Some type of skin” live at Vevo Also a stripped down version. And “The dark dresses lightly” live at the Roskilde festival👍 Tom Rowlands from Chemical Brothers co-wrote “My body is not mine” Aurora has collaborated with Chemical brothers on four songs before, so they know each other quite well. I’m gonna watch your reaction to Billie’s album as well, but I have to wait until tomorrow, it’s over midnight her now and I’m getting sleepy lol Now you should do a reaction to her other albums, starting with the first one👍😉

Haha the ending got me! I am not one of the ones that decodes the lore, but I for sure follow the people who do so I can try to get it. I don't think it makes me any better by any means. For me, its just another layer that is secondary to the feeling the music actually gives. So youre focused on the righr parts of it! Also if you did want a high level overview (without diving into all of the clancy letters), they put out a video called "I am Clancy" that's like 4 minutes long and tells the story up to this album. Not necessary by any means, but just an offer to ease some of the frustration.

This is sooo late, but I was a huge fan of Bastille growing up and heard that in this band instantly, and have never heard anyone else compare ST to them so hats off haha! I think it’s the SUPER specific combo of rnb influenced pop vocals in a Southern English accent, with poetic wordy verses and lots of synths/keys in the 2010s alt pop sound. Like, it’s a ridiculously specific combo, and therefore I’d probably kill to hear Bastille cover a ST song and vice versa!!

To what you initially thought Sports Anthem was gonna be about- it's worth pointing out that Danny IS actually into sports. I know he's big on Football (specifically the Giants) and I've seen clips of him mentioning watching soccer too. The "the joke is we don't anything about sports" angle isn't one I'd expect from him tbh.

People who think there's a second album coming are absolutely the exact same fking self-entitled fools she is mocking with the "when can we hear the next one" line. Really triggers me that so many otherwise intelligent folks have jumped on this delusional bandwagon. Anyway, great reaction, super smart insights, many thanks! P.S. One thing, you're making way too much of the two reworked songs thing with "Blue". You wouldn't have known that if you hadn't read it and she only took the chorus from True Blue ... the lyrics and melodies in the verse are new. No one had heard Born Blue before to my knowledge. Cheers.
