It's interesting to see that the torsion differential that was supposed to be a heavier duty design was completely trashed compared to the limited slip differential that had worn clutch packs where only the clutch pack assembly was worn. It seems that the clutch pack, although wearable, is more robust and serviceable as far as gear assemblies are concerned.

There are 3.4k comments and I am sure one of them asked, would not be easier and better to just drain the fluid and add back the specified amount for the car you are working on? This way you can learn if it was overfilled, low, or okay.

Thanks for a great explanation. Here in the UK, MG have just launched their MG3 Hybrid+. It's made in China so you won't see it in the US. However, here in Blighty, it's the cheapest full hybrid on the market & it's a serial hybrid too with a decent 1.8 kWh battery. I'm interested in getting one but I do wonder quite whether the weight penalty you incur with all that extra metal outweighs the benefits. I regularly average 70 mpg with my 845 kg car. Would the 1300 kg MG3 better this? I suspect not...

Why in the world do automotive engineers design cars like this? It is so annoying. This video is very important for anyone who thinks that can change their trans. fluid in their driveway.

We need a video on how the ALL-WHEEL vehicles work. Up here in Colorado, we need FOUR-WHEEL drive often. Is this possible with these types of electronic transmissions.

Great for torque angle spec like on a crank bolt! Just remember to support the head and to not over tighten! YOU WILL SNAP VERY LARGE BOLTS AND FASTNERS VERY EASILY!

I'm a bit surprised the installation positioning and 'claibration' of the Resolver is so critical. Surely just needs to monitor rotation and not absolute rotational position, and if so its exact positioning wouldnt matter much? There obviously some subtle details I'm not aware of.

Interesting fact is that the only thing powering the vehicle when its going in Reverse, is MG2, as that thats the only thing that can power 'backwards'. There is no reverse gear. Well I guess that isnt a surprise as MG2 powers low speed forward and backward. A quick question - what happens when gear lever is in Neutral ? I guess its a fake neutral that effectively disconnects everything (except MG2) from the output shaft ? Regardless of if ICE is running or not. Handbook says in N that the battery doesnt charge even if engine running ie MG1 is not generating (compared to P with locked drive shaft and where MG1 is generating if ICE is running).

The transaxle oil pump only operating when engine (ICE) on, is presumably acceptable? As engine will be running in most cases when high load is occuring, and the lower load cases with engine off can probably be handled lubrication/cooling wise by splash lubrication. How about high 'reverse' load when MG2 is doing heavy regenerative braking and engine might be off? Hopefully the limited lubrication/cooling is still sufficient in that situation.

1:06:10 The MG2 stationary planet carrier being held by notches seems a bit crude (although cant see any better way to do it), and since MG2 can switch forcefully from power out to power absorbtion (generating), that planet carrier can get oscilating load backwards and forwards, and so could potentially 'rattle' in the housing. Slightly surprised there isnt something more rigidly holding it or 'damping' any potential vibration. Stephen, JDM Estima Hybrid 2011 with P311 transaxle.

This is clearly the absolute proper method to remove/install Universal Joints. I have watched every " How to " video on KZfaq and with a clear conscience, would feel guilty if I followed any video other than these! My interpretation is that if one uses any other method, its a roll of the dice! You may have no problem at all or end up going down a rabbit hole trying to figure out what went wrong.....I am grateful for this series! Nice video well-presented, has a budget-minded stock car racer I do have to point out that you don't weld the spider gears to the side gears... What you do is simply fill in two teeth on the spider gear on opposite sides, thus preventing them from rotating past the spot where you filled in the teeth with the weld... So you do in fact get some movement between the two opposite tires.

Thank you very much for this instructural video. Since 02292024 i bought a second hand Opel Ampera-e, the equivalent of the chevy and was very curious after the batteriepack. Also in Europe they changed the pack and my 05292020 car was updated to 66kWh. You ended with “i am not a strong man anymore” Well sir, on the contrary, you are a mentally giant! Thanks, I concur with all the accolades below. Question, is the oil in the drive a separate system from the ICE oil? Assuming it is separate why don't change it or check it's level occasionally?
