I use Affinity for a while and I love it. I could not afford Adobe PS with all of the charges and I needed it on three machines at the same time. I went with Affinity and love it. Glad to see others love it too.

What I find even more ridiculous is that this bespoke device of theirs is so expensive for what amounts to a very crippled phone. I can buy a decent Android phone for $200. I think his English is so bad because he's actually from China and it appears his funding has primarily come from Chinese investors. He wouldn't be the first to bamboozle venture capitalists though. OS/2 Warp 3 and 4 were actually really good.

The three desktops apps have iPad OS twins. Full fledged apps. I use both macOS and iPad OS versions of Designer all the time.

Make it available for Linux and I'm sold. I want to dump Windows, but if there are no native Linux binaries then not interested.

The thing I'm worried about is that Canva has gone heavily into AI-generated content for their designs, something that people have been complaining about that has been added to Photoshop. They most likely will try to nudge Affinity to include it to keep up with the competition with Photoshop. It makes sense Canva wants to use AI-generated content, with their whole "everyone should be able to design" message, but this is only going to hurt those in the art community who need an alternative to Photoshop.

Adobe's price is very reasonable. The issue is simply that is not made for trivial tasks like composing thumbnails or trimming videos; it's made for advertising agencies, media companies and the likes. The needs this companies have are much more complex and that's where Adobe's solutions *really* generate value.

A correction. OS/2 was not an experimental joint project it was a multitasking operating system that also hosted Win 3.1 and DOS applications natively. While it did die off it was mostly due to cost as you were also buying a Windows licence. After 4 major versions it saw lots of use on non-consumer systems where stability was important.

Affinity's issue is that they broke the trust of long time users by replacing DrawPlus with Affinity Designer, which is years off from reaching feature parity with DrawPlus... yet they refuse to sell the better software anymore, since they know it blows away their new software and creates self competition for their new branding. Commercial software companies just kind of suck in general. This history also shows that no, they really can do whatever they want from here and not only will some people love it, but people will fervently defend even a loss of features, as happened with DrawPlus being replaced by Designer. FOSS entirely replaced Adobe for me two decades ago, it's silly to say they haven't been challenged yet. Video editing, animation, pixel art, digital painting, Speaking as a commercial artist with a technical/computing skill set, that has worked in many fields: you name it Adobe dropped the ball a long time ago.

Ok I know this is not a focus really in the video at all, but... Lol Lightroom no competition? There are a ton of better photo apps. Darkroom is free and it's fully GPU and multithreaded with more editing modules, and multiple workflow options. For less manual tweaking, dxo or some if the new ai editors kill it, and capture one is far better too lol. If any of their software has professional competition it's Lightroom. I think the main things without good competition would be after effects. There are plenty more powerful compositing softwares out there, but not as many that focus on quick and dirty solutions that are layer-based. Most of them are node-based now, which while more powerful, is not super quick and mentally accessible
