Enjoyed the fiddle playing, and wondered if the Doherty fiddler's skill were passed down to another generation. I know John Doherty did not have any children, but Mickey Doherty the brother and another famous fiddler player did have children. I have a CD of the reels of Mickey called "At home with Mickey Doherty and it does say he lived in Ballybofey for a time with his wife Mary Rua Doherty, Does anyone know how many children Mickey had and if they inherited musical talents

After 1932 the political parties of the day in Ireland seemed to develop a penchant for authoritarianism and even totalitarianism and the 1935 Dancehalls Act is a good example of the way the political mood was moving. This is portrayed in the recent film Jimmy’s Hall by Ken Loach. Here the political power of the Church was exercised by the subservient politicians of the two major parties especially. Local authorities and the police indirectly actioned the will of their ecclesiastical masters. At that time in Ireland there was a sizeable minority of the population who also had a zest for such authoritarianism. Unfortunately emigration of the best and brightest emanated from that state of the nation.

From a time when people still remembered how to say something through their music, unlike the fiddlers of today who have the perfect vocabulary but don't know what they're talking about
