I bought this as an arf with electronics. Maybe I got the cg way off but it is impossible to fly. Very twitchy even with rates turned down.

Testing results with the shinning. Flies good, but really need low throws to start with. I set my rates at 15 with 70 expo. Will up once I get used to the plane. Wonder what everyone else is using? On another note landing on grass fields is tough on props as plane tends to tip forward (typical tail dragger with small wheels). I decided to velcro a nosewheel for now and that works great as a prop saver. Used velcro so it can pull off easily rather than damaging the plane. A couple of other issues. The epp foam is weak. I had a control horn pull out with a bit of epp. Never had that issue with crash test hobbies. Their epp foam is much stronger. The control horn design is not the best. Would be much better to have ones with back on the opposite side of the elevator, rudder or alerion. And I wonder why they didn't cut the rudder on angle to avoid ground contact? But in spite of that it's is a good plane and looking forward to more outings.

Small question as I'm about to build one. The instructions show two types of glue are required. (502 and UHU) I assume where it does mention use glue it means UHU and and when it mentions foam adhesive use 502. They only show a pic of a tube used to glue two pieces of fuselage together. I assume I should use foam adhesive not UHU. Is that correct? I tied a test glue of two small EPP pieces I had from another build using UHU and they did not stick so not sure if UHU will be an issue. Thanks in advance.

UHU Por is for polystyrene that is a great glue to use or a polystyrene friendly glue. That was the only glue I used 😀 I hope this helps!

Dial the rates right back for your first flight. It is a very capable model and can do a lot of heavy 3D manoeuvres. But for your first flight out all the rates to about 60%. If you can set up a 60% low rate and 100% high rate switch on your transmitter 😃

Not sure how much rc plane experience you have,but this is a good design and can fly very well..put plenty of expo in radio..get CG right and make sure all servos are working correctly and surfaces are moving in right direction set your ailerons and elevator up for low medium and high rates...start with low rates at first..as you get used to plane and get it trimmed on a calm day then try medium rates next..good luck

@@mattharris2309 Sorry Matt but you are sorely misinformed there! EPP (Expanded Poly Propylene) is a completely different compound than EPS (Expanded Poly Styrene - also known as Styrofoam/Beer Cooler Foam/Horizon Slobby Foam.) EPS will be dissolved by anything that contains the mildest organic solvent, whereas EPP can be glued with Toluene containing glues with impunity. Try it! But also take note that the EPO foam (Expanded Poly Oleofin foam) that is used for many larger commercial RTF planes is a mixture of Polymerized Plastics and often WILL be affected by solvent containing glues in the same way as EPS. 😉

Gorilla glue super glue works great..bonds well does not melt foam.
@theoztreecrasher2647
@theoztreecrasher2647 11 ай бұрын
@@roadstar499 Super glues (of any type) have their place but may not be the best choice for use on EPP. EPP (unlike EPS) is a very flexible foam and Super glues (also epoxy glues) tend to be hard and inflexible leading to cracking at the joints as the foam deforms. Another problem with EPP planes is that they usually have residual mould-release compound on the outside meaning that (if you don't remove it by solvents (isopropyl alcohol is good) or sanding, a lot of glues don't stick to it properly. Hot glue will melt through it and solvent-based glues like contact cements will generally dissolve it off without affecting the EPP foam.

White West foam. I put it under a warm shower for a few seconds, leave it for 15 minutes and the paper falls off. Dries quickly wiped with a paper towel. if it doesn't fall off easily then you have let it dry out, give it some more water and time. You then have 5 mm thick very nice Depron. For bent parts like the upper wing surface I use coloured packing tape before bending. For flat surfaces you can cover it after construction. alternatively you can cut out the components and strip them using the sink hot tap. I found that using dry heat on the full sheets is a total pain. It can be done but it's tedious. Getting rid of the paper backing loses significant weight.

Interesting and informative video. I gave up trying to source Flite test foam in the UK at an affordable price. I also tried using white Westfoam for a couples of models but it is heavy and doesn't lend itself well to the Flite test folds as I found getting the paper off cleanly a nightmare. I use Diall Polystyrene Insulation board from B and Q which looks like depron to me. It is for underlay but is very light and you can get it in 3, 6 or 9 mm thickness. I have built a few models with it and you can glue it using UHU POR or hot glue. I have also used it to make a couple of Flite test models with it and just covered it each side in coloured packing tape for finishing and so you can do the required cuts, folds and hinges.

Very informative. So far, I've built two FT Spitfires using a combo of West Foam white and another, thinner type of foam (3mm) that I think I got from Amazon - make unknown, but I want to say it was called Cathedral foam board?? Can't recall offhand what either of the two Spits weighs in at, but I should think they're around the 850g mark AUW. My third FT Spit has the same materials (I was going to use the 5mm WF for the wings, but I made a mess of them!)

A quick calculation - at 118g the Flitetest board weighs 308g per square metre. At 225g the bigger grey stuff is 450g per square metre. So although the sheet is nearly twice as heavy, when you account for the larger sheet size it’s actually about 50% heavier. Not great, but probably ok especially for larger models? ... did I see that correctly, the wings are not profiled? Then the ailerons should be set slightly negative to generate at least a little lift ...

@easyflyers Жыл бұрын
Yes the wings aren’t profiled. So we compiled the review as it would be if you got the kit yourself and we followed the instructions in the book. Unfortunately they haven’t put in that you should profile the wing. Here is where the issue lays, much like you say if they don’t have profile they need a slight down on aileron position for lift. We sent lots of feedback and hope they can amend the instructions a little to aid builders 😊

... ok, @@easyflyers, maybe this "old trick" affects the lift by applying stripes of contact adhesive (e.g. UHU...) on the underside of the wing in the direction of flight, i.e. 90 degrees to the wingspan, at a distance of approx.5 cm, the adhesive that is only applied to one side then curves the surfaces slightly when drying ... Graupner, for example, recommended it for rubber powered balsa model airplanes in the 1970s, and... it worked...
