Thanks Matt, truth is these are easy tables, so any misses are purely down to shooter error! In fact there were quite a few balls that dropped in that maybe should've missed but the generous pockets, especially the corners, allowed them in. Ken is a very experienced player and it's great to play sets against him, really helps improve my game. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Mike

it was definitely a foul considering that the cue shot straight towards the long rail after contact. it also felt like a foul but just wanted to be entirely sure in that moment before conceding the turn back. great set nonetheless! that third game was a fantastic runout potential by Brian!

@@AverageSDPoolPlayer I believe the shooter knows best in these circumstances… my first thought was the 7 seemed to move first but it was mighty close. I feel you Steve. Alas, CSI who run the events, only have shot clocks on the two Pro TV tables, the remaining 20 Pro tables don't have the manpower / referees to run and enforce the system. These BCA World Pool League Championships are a big deal for league players and there was over $91,000 in prize money paid out to the top 128 finishers just in this Gold Division. The winner gets $13,000, so players generally take more time. CSI did enforce a 2-hour limit on these race--to-five matches, with any unplayed racks replaced by a lag, which happened quite a few times.

Hi Jeff, thanks for commenting - I can relate... ...I used to be the same, getting frustrated, irritated and annoyed with myself but realized that kind of negative reaction is totally counter-productive and spoils your enjoyment of the game. Of course, we wouldn't be human if we didn't experience disappointment at missing pots, scratching or hooking ourselves, but we can control how we deal with it. A good way is to smile, chuckle or even laugh at it. See the funny side. Enjoy the moment. And remember, all you can control is your shot selection and execution... everything else is beyond your control and therefore isn't worth wasting time and energy even thinking about, let alone worrying or getting upset over. My advice, consciously try to practice self-compassion... everyone makes mistakes, missed pots or just generally plays badly from time to time. But getting upset about it spoils your whole game and certainly doesn't help you turn it around and find your A game.

I really enjoyed this match. Nothing against Ernesto, he is a pretty good player that didn't play his best, but I was rooting for Mike. I am not sure how the Fargo is figured out, but Mike certainly seems better than a 450. I have seen guys at 600 that don't play as well as Mike. As for Ernesto, he plays almost exactly like his son. Both are very controlled and make things look super easy at times. I think Ernesto was probably not happy with his overall play and knows he can play better. As for Mike (I just have to say these things, lol), he can play. He needs to work on his ball pocketing more and probably shorten his bridge on certain shots. But it is obvious he has some talent. Well done. Love these matches.
@mothlikeTV
@mothlikeTV 2 ай бұрын
I had a couple of conversations with Ernesto, he’s a real class act on the table and off it. Loved watching him play, gracefully waltzing round the table. He’s doing great for 69 that’s for sure and can still produce a very high standard. About this match, table 2 at On Cue is rather unforgiving and I think it’s true to say that everyone, Oscar included, struggled to really play well on it. But that’s more credit to Mike, who really found some great form in the second half of the match. I’d played him in R1 and he didn’t quite get going against me. I think one of the issues lower rated players have is inconsistency, and I count myself in this group, when we’re on and are confident, we can play almost a perfect game but our B and C games are poor and let us down. I think the better players are not only great when they’re on form but their worst game is still capable of winning matches.

There is a Mike Edmiston and a Michael Edmiston out of Carson City, NV. One is a 450 (provisional) the other was a 543. They are both me because a Tourny operator looked up Mike and not Michael, creating a new provisional fargo and I've not found anyone to remove the lower Mike yet. I presume it's the same thing MOTHLIKE did here, but for the record, I am a 542 Fargo. I appreciate the tips and the positive comments. Hope the change in Fargo doesn't change your opinion. lol

I can't speak much for APA rankings but Mike sure shoots well for a 450 Fargo. According to the Fargo app: 725 racing to 9 vs 450 racing to 6, the 725 should win 99.4% of the time. I'm not 100% sure this is Mike's Fargo, he told me he was from Reno and that's where this 450 MIKE EDMISTON is from, but the Robustness is 0. There's also a Michael Edmiston, from Roundhouse, NV who is a 543 with 1,104 Robustness. If that's his correct rating on this race length the Fargo app says Ernesto should win 93.3% of the time. Whatever the case, Mike shoots well when he gets his arm going and a bit of confidence, as you'll see from some of his runouts in this match.

A over 100 pt Fargo difference should be a 7-4 race not 7-6. Using Fargo you need to set the races based on the difference between the players not a set scale, or you get a 550 playing a 551 with a handicap but a 551 playing a 649 even though the first 2 players are the same skill, and the other two are a full level apart.
@mothlikeTV
@mothlikeTV 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment… the handicaps for the Lucasi West Coast Tour most definitely favor the better players… they split entrants into 4 groups based on their Fargo ratings: Pros (720+) who race to 9 Semi-pros (651-719) who race to 8 Veterans (551-650) who race to 7 Amateurs (550 and under) who race to 6 My next match was against a 646 and we both raced to 7! I’ll be posting that match up here soon. I think you’re right, handicapping based on how many Fargo points separate the players would be a bit more fair but the single rack difference a race for 100 points would still hugely favor the better player. I do have a recording of my opponent Mike playing Ernesto Dominguez, who is a 725, on the one loss side and will post that soon. You really should check it out.

Hey Mike, this channel is turning into one of my favorite channels. I watch a HUGE amount of pool - and I mean HUGE. From the best in the world to lower ranked APA matches. I just love watching pool and playing. And out of all these channels if I see a vid of yours go up I immediately watch it - and so does my wife, although we watch for different reasons! LOL. I have commented on a number of your videos, and I also want to comment on one shot very early in this match. The one ball after you had ball in hand. I think you mentioned a friend of yours had told you before that with shots like that it is better to over-hit the ball because you still end up having a shot on the two (in this case). This is exactly true. As soon as I saw you hit the shot I wondered why you didn't play it harder and go two rails, hitting the right long rail above the side pocket. It would allow you to let your stroke out and give you a MUCH larger margin of error. This was a shot, or shots like this, that I had to work on a lot. And I mean a lot. I was always tried to play speed into tight areas, but when you allow yourself to use multiple rails it makes the game easier. Anyway, we really enjoy these vids and this channel deserves a lot more subscribers. Keep posting.

Hey thanks James, I do appreciate your comments. I'm also planning a how to series with a different player each time showing me a specific shot that we can all add to our arsenal, if it's not in there already!

Fargo is usually somewhat accurate from my experience. But you put Oscar who not long ago beat Jayson Shaw against a 437, there would have to be a certain amount of luck just to get in rythm. A better test is to bring another 325 player vs the 437. I'm guessing the outcome would be drastically different. In other words, I would not base on just this one match against an arguably world class player.

I don't usually make comments like this, but this time I just can't help myself. First of all - congrats to Bruce. He clearly played a more solid fundamental game with more control. That is ONE reason why he white-washed Marvin. Second, Marvin reminds me a lot of the Filipinos I played when I lived in the Philippines. I don't know if Marvin is Filipino or not, but he has that Filipino "thinks he is good attitude" that you see so much over there. His mannerism's around the table and his body language are not good. I saw it thousands of times. Good players do NOT make the silly mistakes Marvin made in this match. Am I being too harsh? Maybe, but I got so fed up with it when I played in the Philippines I just have to speak out about it. Again, I am not saying Marvin is Filipino, but he just reminds me of many of those players over there. And don't get me wrong, there are a LOT of top players in the Philippines - it is just that there are also a lot of guys that walk around a table thinking they are good but making ridiculous mistakes. Marvin's match here just brought back a lot of those memories. Anyway, good job Bruce.

My take on this is that I try not to allow myself to get irritated by anything whilst I'm playing pool (or indeed just in the course of my everyday existence). Don't get me wrong, I've experienced more than my share of irritation, frustration and upset over my decades misspent in billiard halls around the world. It's a fact that we can exert control over our reactions to anything and everything that we perceive through our senses, be that your opponent in a game of billiards, the car that cuts you up on the freeway or the handles that just snapped on your shopping bag spilling your groceries over the sidewalk. You do however, need the self awareness when these "triggers" occur, so you can deliberately just let them float on by... I don't have time to spend getting upset about these things, especially if they are wholly beyond my control. It makes for a much happier day.
