I visited Sutton Hoo last summer and agree it’s a truly magical and spiritual place. Suffolk is dotted with spooky burial mounds that are much older than Saxon times. I found one in a copse with the tiny muntjac deer and camped there. I saw absolutely love Suffolk.

Bees are endlessly fascinating. They have 5 eyes for example. There’s still lots we don’t understand about their society. The conscious design in nature seems very apparent to me when I see bees at work.

I agree, they really are remarkable creatures. They really are one of the most interesting species on this planet, how they think, act, what they create. There are two things that always fascinate me the most about our natural world. One is how the golden ratio appears in so many things, and also how bees (and spiders) have this wonderful innate awareness to build incredible, perfect structures.

@@Echoesofoldways I was surprised to find bees in Siberia this summer. How will they survive the winter? Next week I’m going home to Sydney where the bees will be coming out of hibernation. In spring I’ll be back in Suffolk. Bees really do feed the world! My dream is to have a cottage with a garden like yours. I’ll look into this golden rule. Thank you 🙏

I've heard that if you speak with a Suffolk accent in Australia, the locals will ask you which part of Tasmania you come from. Seems a load of people from Suffolk emigrated there way back when and the accent kind of stuck.

From what I’ve seen and read is that people with a Cockney accent were always looked down on as the lowest. But I’m from the States so I think any English accent is cool.

@@Echoesofoldways Yes, indeed. I live in Southeast Texas and this summer, along with many bees, I’ve also seen an abundance of frogs during my hikes in the woods. That points to a healthy ecosystem. Last year we had such a drought that nature seemed to whither away from the heat but this year the forest is alive with buzzing 🐝 and hopping 🐸. 😊 I look forward to your next video and I hope you have a great day!

That sounds wonderful, I’m so pleased to hear that the natural world there has managed to spring back to life after last years heat. This year, as with the past two years our Winters and Springs have been so wet that everything went completely out of synch. Then we have a period of warmth like now and it all seems to right itself again. Remarkable really. I’m also pleased to know the frogs are going strong, I have such a soft spot for them. I often find them in my garden, so there must be a pond nearby. Wishing you a lovely day too 🙂

Needs a hive placing over them so they work up on to proper frames. Would need feeding to get them through the winter. Theres probably a queen in there or they wouldn't stay.
@Echoesofoldways
@Echoesofoldways 21 күн бұрын
That’s what I thought, I assumed there must be a Queen too. Though someone has told me that occasionally they can build when they want a Queen to join them, almost like they go on autopilot after leaving the original swarm. I always thought a Queen had to motivate them though? I’d love to have them live here permanently but that isn’t an option sadly, so hopefully they can be collected by someone with a hive 🙂
@WhichDoctor1
@WhichDoctor1 3 күн бұрын
@@Echoesofoldways you are right that bees tend to get very listless without a queen. But when bees swarm they get really motivated and build crazy. They often start building comb on whatever spot the swarm rests at before they find a real home. So if this little group got separated from the swarm and left without a queen i can see them still building comb just because that’s what they were keyed up to do. I would guess that’s what happened, cause the other bees wouldn’t have gone anywhere without the queen. But they could probably be careful adding to an existing hive

Well established nest, a lot of it is underground. I'm no expert but swarms don't split into two as there is only one queen amongst them. It may be the other way around though, the swarm may have originated from this nest. A new queen is born and takes over the nest, the old one flies a short distance and waits for some of the workers to follow her and make a swarm, then they all fly away.
@Echoesofoldways
@Echoesofoldways 21 күн бұрын
It’s definitely starting look like it’s established now doesn’t it. The initial swarm was huge, it came over the nearby gardens and settled in one of my trees. By the next morning it had divided itself into two, a large grouping on one side of the tree and a smaller one on the opposite side. Then the largest group left first, which according to my beekeeping friends can happen when a new Queen emerges in a hive that already has a older Queen. I’ve videoed a lot of it, so maybe once they’ve all followed their cycle (or been collected) I’ll put it all together in one video. They’re complex creatures aren’t they 🙂🐝

Hiyaa Sarah! 😄 Greetings from Minsk, the capital of Belarus! That's a landlocked country somewhat in the centre of Europe, West from Russia. Although I'm a Russian-language speaker, I happen to be fond of the English language, enjoy learning it and relish exploring all the variety of accents and dialects it has. Even if I don't understand a thing, that only brings more fun! Odd as it may come off, in Russian there are almost no accents left. I hope you're getting on well despite the strange comments you get on your accent - saw your video that blew up. It's easy to say from the outside being the audience, "Ignore these trolls and be yourself", it actually must feel quite unsettling when somebody all of a sudden comes up at you like this. I reckon you did a good job of handling this though! Although that'll be my first comment, I've been watching your channel for quite a while. Really enjoy your down-to-earth, kind spirit. Whatever you say of nature around you makes total sense to me, and I love your explanations. I like staying outdoors as well. It's amazing you went on posting videos, I thought you'd stop. I'd been meaning to ask you something for quite a time, but felt too hesitant, and after I watched that one, that got me so sorry I hadn't done it before. How do you see me following you elsewhere, or us arranging voice chats from time to time? That would help gme to boost my comprehension of East Anglia accents and find out more about the English countryside. We could have fun, and other times have a tat more meaningful conversations if you please. I seem to have seen the links to your other social media, but understandably after that aggressive comment they are gone. I promise you I've got nothing malicious on my mind. You can check out my KZfaq channel, it's got a few vids. Hopefully it can give you a bit of impression, so you could make up your mind if you're keen on dealing with me. Please let me know. Whatever, wishing you lots of health, and that you always stay in touch with your inner self. Keep safe and cheers! Mike

@GusliMike Hello Mike, thank you so very much for your lovely comment. It's very nice to virtually meet you. I hope that this message finds you well. I've heard of Minsk, I've not had any contact with anyone from there so it would be really nice to chat about where we live, and life in general. I'm in the process of sorting out my social media, so we should be able to keep in touch once I'm fully up and running. Thank you for your kind words about my videos, and you were correct in thinking that I may consider giving up youtube after the one that blew up. I had so many comments that I had to delete, some people were very cruel and others were really frightening. I'm just someone who lives quietly in the countryside. I'd never experienced anything like that before. I intend to start filming again soon but I'm currently taking a little break. I shall definitely check out your channel, and I'll also let you know when my social media is up and running again. My Instagram is running again, if you use that at all? I'll sign off for now as it's getting late here. Sending you best wishes, Sarah.

@@Echoesofoldways Hello again, thanks a bunch for your lovely reply. I do have Instagram, but not very much into it. Partly because I happen to be blind (in the very direct sense of this), and this network is mostly about pics. I do pop in sometimes though, so here you are for any case. Mike97IAm Not giving you the link, because KZfaq nowadays will often count links in the comments from anyone but the video author as spam, and won't let them pass through. Kindest regards, Mike

We had them in our upstairs bedroom last year and for two weeks I gathered them with hand brush and pan and put them out the windows. I didn't get stung, I was helping them because when trapped indoors they were dying everywhere. A swarm outside our back door around the same time was very aggressive, best left alone, they moved on without help.
