Y'know what? I'm just gonna say it, I don't like all the different dice types. You want an accessible TTRPG? Make it work with D6s. That's why I like TinyD6, Mausritter, EZD6, etc. You can play it literally anywhere you can find 2d6 if you know the rules off the top of your head.

That's a lot of rules and procedures. Im sure it is a much quicker combat when everyone knows the rules. But combat using the standard rules would be quicker if everyone knew them as well.

So a fighter with 16 Str carrying a greatsword is more likely to hit his enemy than the rogue with 20 dex wielding a dagger. It still tilts the balance towards bigger weapons. Even more when you gain skills that increase your chances to hit a crit. PD: I also love pathfinder, but me and my group are more used to DND 5e

Wait so his punch for fun before combat is now penalizing him for the coming combat. So by being true to his character he sacrificed an entire turn for a punch that wasnt even turn related. That means nothing changed between the first and second scenario. Hes still gonna sit there doing nothing after the punch while he waits for his “next” turn cause you cant really say he had a first turn.

I am currently building my own TTRPG, so this was highly useful. In my system I decided to remove initiative altogether. Any sides in a fight alternate with whoever initiated it going first (players usually favored). Then having the players' part end when everyone resolved their actions. This also allows for players to engage with eachother, move out of the way of eachother's attacks, and make transitions to and from fights feel like a natural part of the story instead of a forced pause or change of pace. I do really like though and might take inspiration from how in Nimble initiative can affect how much you do until your first proper turn. I think. That is very appreciated and works perfectly for your system.

I sort of like your combat system, but it’s not D&D at all. It feels like I just watched a video about a different game system. Granted, one that I might be interested in buying. But it’s not D&D. You’re not improving D&D combat. You’re introducing an entirely different game. Do a Kickstarter and write your own game. You might be successful.

Oh man, this looks really cool actually?? I'm kinda a 5e hater (really every edition of D&D seems to have major flaws) but I love projects that ACKNOWLEDGE it's flaws and try their best to fix them, because I totally get why people stick with 5e anyways, even if I wish they didn't. This might make GMing kinda fun for me again. Hopefully easier than convincing people to play entirely different games.

I dont think it's possible to remove the level and class system from 5E. the promo said their are new subclasses and classes so I doubt it is changed too much. Just redesigned existing concepts for smoother play
@ImmortalTimothyM
@ImmortalTimothyM 2 ай бұрын
@@scetchmonkey007 Yeah, I agree with that. In the past I tried to see if a no level 5e would work, but it is not practical. So I switched to other systems that were closer to what I wanted. I think that this system is interesting and cool enough to be its own system or adjusted to apply to generic level-less systems.
@scetchmonkey007
@scetchmonkey007 2 ай бұрын
@@ImmortalTimothyM I dunno, when I want a level-less system id do write my own. But they usually work best in the same tier of play. IE D&D's play varies alot based on what level the group is 1-5, 5-10,10-15 or15-20. Level-less systems dont get that kind of gradation of power. Its why I keep coming back to 5E, the structure that is there is something any player new or old can get thier head around and enjoy and the game shifts and stays fresh as you level up. In level less systems. Its oh my hp or stat or skill went up a point, or maybe after several sessions you learn a new significant ability. This keeps you in the same tier of play you dont get that much better too fast. Their are pros and cons to this. my question is how do you implement a power like the Wish spell in a level-less system.
@ImmortalTimothyM
@ImmortalTimothyM 2 ай бұрын
@@scetchmonkey007 I guess it depends on what you are looking for because in the systems I like there would be no equivalent to a wish spell other than a grand campaign defining ritual. The power levels of level-less systems are much more grounded and more low fantasy while DnD is definitely high fantasy. I personally prefer low fantasy so level-less systems appeal to me more than 5e.
@scetchmonkey007
@scetchmonkey007 2 ай бұрын
@@ImmortalTimothyM Yeah thats exactly what I was saying, level less systems are great if you are stuck in a specific field of play and want to remain there. But you cannot grow out of it and reach those tiers where you get to cast wish, which is also fun. only D&D can do that poper on the streets casting spells and illusions for coin who grows into the greatest archmage in the realms. To me that is the full character experience.

I had a group when I was younger that ran a lot of games that were just intensely homebrewed 5e to fit a different world, and most of them were bad. A lot of that was because they didn’t think about balance; they just wanted to put what was cool into the game without thinking ahead. I still remember those session though. What you define as ‘D&Dslop’ could be something special. It can also take a lot to make something completely from scratch when you see a defined baseline that you think you could transform into something better. That’s where a lot of good things come from. I’m not a fan of people making 5e into entirely different systems when there are so many other great ones out there, but I think it makes more sense to look at the contents of the creation, rather than critique it on its origins.

This really has been the answer to my prayers. I am currently 1 year into an online 5e campaign and the slog of many of 5e's mechanics have been starting to get to me. I have looked into other systems but the work it would take to strip out 5e and replace it with something like Pathfinder or Forbidden Lands would be insurmountable. (Not to mention the backlash from players committed to their current 5e character builds.) Nimble has given me a way to seamlessly tweak the existing rules of our online game without demanding countless hours of backend work from me. I can instead focus on prepping my next session with the tools I already have. I also really don't understand the backlash from the "just play another system" crowd when there are so many 5e supplements (both official and 3rd party) out there. Not to mention the active data bases, VTT modules / support, and companion apps for 5e currently in circulation. Having a comprehensive list of modular (and interconnected) rules to help improve the game seems like an absolute win to me. If you don't like a part of the Nimble ruleset, just take it out and use what works for your table.

Ok, I like the ideas of speeding up combat. Can I offer another idea? Why is everything on the planet sticking around until it dies? Does nothing use instinct anymore? Old school D&D used a morale system. This aided in what the reaction of monsters would do when they reached a certain level of damage. The Ahnkeg you have presented when it was close to dying, could have used it's instincts and just left the group, so it lives to find a meal another day. It seems that in modern games, every creature has lost all desire to remain alive. Your system seems fast and fairly intuitive. I wish you the best in your endeavor.
