Thank you for posting this video. I have downloaded Darktable, Raw Therapee, and GIMP and just done a quick look at my photos from my camera to Windows Photos, Darktable & Raw Therapee. The way the images look on my camera vs Photos on Windows starts like my camera shows, then gets Super bright, BUT I can zoom in a lot and see in some parts little color circles. This allows me to zoom in and see a lot of clear details vs the other 2. On Darktable, I can't zoom in anywhere near as much and the pics are more of a warm color making it look like I have a lot of work cut out for me to adjust. Raw Therapee actually brings up my pics exactly as they look on my camera, but if I zoom in a lot, it gets blocks. I will need to learn how to do some editing in the near future, but so far, Raw Therapee is my most likely to be used since I see the same colors without making it look like a warm setting like Darktable does. I just have to be mindful that if I want to see more details of what's further back, it gets blocky so I can't get quite the same details as Photos on Windows. I read someone saying that they use Darktable and GIMP, but since I have yet to actually start my editing journey, I would like to know if anyone can explain why both would be needed.

the one thing ill disagree with is the loupedeck, its speeded me up no end, tho its taken me a while to custom the buttons to my liking, but I use it every day and couldn't do with out.

Is there a way to set the manual focus distance scale to stay on in either the EVF or monitor? Thanks!

Brilliant tutorial. Thanks for the attachments too. It helps enormously to practice and see the results in our own monitors, which is a ton better than watching everything on KZfaq alone. A trillion thanks.

Thanks so much for creating this guide. It is by far, the best guide as to why and how to use the exposure bracketing that I've found on youtube.

Thanks for a great video. I believe that if you want to edit in a bigger spage than rgb, for instance adobe rgb, you will need a monitor that you can switch to adobe rgb, you have much more color space to manipulate the photo. then when finished convert it to rgb for web usage. On a normal monitor (mostly simple rgb) you can not see the adobe color range. From raw shot to edit in big color space (adobe rgb) with a monitor set to adobe rgb and then when finished convert to rgb for everyone to see.

what happens when the SS overrides the interval? there is no time gap to save the photo in memory card! how does this work then?

Hey I shoot on a Sony (A7C) camera, and i really struggle to use/understand the Auto ISO Minimum SS function. The first problem is, let's say I set it to A mode, and set max ISO to 8000, ISOAMInSS to 4". Now after the ISO maxes, the SS again starts to slow down beyond 4", 8",15" and so on (this I still understand). In the program Auto mode, everything goes crazy, I don't even understand what's happening. I expect after the ISO maxes out, and SS is minimum, then the aperture should open up (if the lens allows), but it doesn't , everything is a mess there.

This is perfect information, thank you! Question: my 1:1 views are deleted in a week. Still the preview cache indicates 21 GB (!). How to get rid of that?

I'm good, thanks for checking in with me. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make my channel sustainable... even though it was pretty much a full time job... so I have had to explore other ways to make a living. Hopefully I can come back to it in the future, but for now it is on hold. 👍

I remember the first time I discovered clipping highlights. I was taking pictures of a beautiful building with a beautiful blue sky. I took the picture and the bright blue sky was gone in the photo, replaced by a gray sky with no detail. I checked at the blinkies and the whole sky was blinking.

If you need to focus on a moving target why not just use the autofocus continuous? If you want to focus somewhere specific in a static shot why not just use Flexible Spot area? It's even easier than with the back button focus. With the back button focus you have to target an area you want to focus on, press the back button, then recomposition. It's much easier to just use the joystick and select the spot on the screen you want to focus on.

Tillting screen every day. I do not understand how Canon opted for the fully articulating one. I am leaving them for the screen and lack of trhird party lenses and buying Nikon now.

For what I call everyday photography I use my a6500 and the sony 18-135. For wide or landscape photography I use a a6000 with a sony 10-18mm f4. Most of my photography I travel the world shooting total solar eclipses with a nikon d-750 with a nikon 200mm-500mm, that I probably replace at some point simply because it weighs so damn much. thanks for the tip about the tamron 50-400.

I have a Sigma 32mm that we took star pics with last night! It did very well and we didn't have the right back settings on the Sony A73 camera. My daughter gave me this lens and 3 others as she is a pro in Hawaii top ten!! I have a Nikon D5300 older camera also that I got a 10mm to 20mm wide lens I want to try for fun as well...used gear is so much cheaper!!

can any tripod head attach to any tripod??
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 11 сағат бұрын
Some are not removable, some have a larger thread (3/8 16) and some have a smaller thread (1/4 20). The cheaper ones tend to have a fixed head that can't be removed, photography ones tend to have the 1/4 20 thread and the bigger videography tend to have the 3/8 16 thread. Both are imperial sizes and if you have the tripod with the smaller thread, you can get an adapter for the bigger thread. I hope that makes sense. 👍

HELP! I just got this camera last week and I am setting up to go out this weekend for astrophotography and for some reason I dont know where this "Press magnify button" is. It seems like you just pressed the right of the D-Pad but when I do that, it brings up the ISO settings. How can I zoom into the star to focus on it? Please and thank you!!!

@mikesphotography 11 сағат бұрын
Sorry, just saw your message now, I hope you found it... I should have explained that better in the video. You can find it in the menu, tab 1, page 13/14 "Focus Magnifier". It might be on a different page depending on your camera and firmware version. If it is greyed out, you need to switch the camera to manual focus and then it will become available. 👍

thank you very much! really informative! i do have a question tho, can you layer the blackframe over an edited photo? or would this work only if you do the layering when still unedited? maybe by applying the same editing settings on the main photo to the blackframe, could it work? thank you very much

As far as I can tell the "flip" screen seems to be the "fully articulated", which should serve well those that like the "tilt" screen, the full-articulated, and the ones that would just flip the screen to the outside, and use it like that. As a wildlife enthusiast, and a Sony shooter since the A77V,, I usually close it and use the viewfinder constantly (unless I shoot marco, and then I can always flip it , so I really appreciate Sony's return to a flip screen.
