I was Campbell - Campbell - Stone type of CoC member for 34yrs so please hear me out. Considering the comment from 9:02 to 9:23 concerning the practice of the early church and the practice of the church today...... This is an absolutely perfect example of PRETEXT. That is, having a man made belief (tradition of man) and then IMPOSING IT onto a Bible text that does NOT say that nor is the context reflected. Ironically that is the exact opposite of what COC's profess to do and is why I'm motivated to leave a comment here. Paul in Acts 20:7 did NOT establish a weekly church gathering. Nor was he repeating an existing gathering of christians who regularly met on sun-worship day and partook of a non-biblically named "Lord's supper". Act 20:7 - 1st day of week - Common mistake: We read an English version of Greek text using a roman / catholic mindset. o Mankind stopped using God’s calendar and now we use the Roman / Julian / Gregorian one. o In the year 321 the emperor Constantine made a new edict known as the Sunday decree: “All judges and city people and the craftsmen shall rest upon the venerable Day of the Sun…” o Catholics lay claim they changed Sabbath to Sunday. o Protestants ignore the Sabbath and keep the law denying and man made traditions of Sunday worship. o As a result, we (Christians) operate in traditions of men and are blinded to what the Bible texts actually show. - The word “day” is not in the original English texts. That’s why it’s sometimes shown in italics. - “The first of the week” is somewhat close to the original meaning but is easily misunderstood by the modern roman catholic mindset to think it means Sunday after sunrise. o Bible word used in vs7 is Sabbaton (G4521) o The term Motza'ei Shabbat (Hebrew: מוצאי שב ת -literally, the going out of the Sabbath) refers to the time in the evening immediately following Shabbat, that is Saturday at sundown. o Within the context of Acts 20:7 “going out of Sabbath” implies several things: ▪ The 7th day Sabbath is used as the referent for days of the week. (if something ended at the cross? Why would it still be the REFERENT 20-ish yrs later?) ▪ The calendar being referenced is .....God’s calendar..... where the day ends/begins at sundown. Not the roman / catholic one we use today (Julian / Gregorian calendar ) - They “broke bread” at the end of Sabbath (Saturday evening), fellowshipped, Paul spoke to them until mid-night, and this was a one-time event. It was NOT an abolishment of or replacement for the weekly Sabbath. - Breaking of bread COULD mean a regular meal, or a memorial of Christ, or BOTH. o Sabbath observance still exists after the cross (10+ times in book of Acts and future to us in the coming time of Isaiah 66:22-23) ▪ These believers were still meeting in synagogue for prayers, Torah reading, teaching. and on what day? ........God's Holy and blessed day of ceasing work, which is THE 7th DAY SABBATH. o This .....ONE TIME ONLY..... after sunset gathering, was very likely sharing a meal and obviously listening to Paul speak until mid night. ▪ The reference to many lamps in the place is telling. Someone had kept a Sabbath fire or at least hot coals. At the end of Sabbath, folks brought their lamps to light and take fire home with them (an interpretation from Jewish culture) - Paul was to be traveling away from them starting the next day. Which is the 1st day of work according to God’s command - Exod 20:8-9 and is 100% in line with the commanded 7th day Sabbath. o He was going to be away from them for some time and wanted to share a final meal and message w/them before he left on a journey. So, he spoke until mid-night and intended to travel after sun up on Yom Rishon. ******A reoccurring Christian assembly on the pagan sun-worship day is NOT found in Acts 20 ***** Yet..... this out of context and pre-texted scripture is used as THE cornerstone and foundational proof for CoC's to deny the Sabbath and instead meet on sun-worship day. I've personally conducted "the Lord's table" 100+ times over the yrs. And with Elder acknowledgement and affirmation used Acts 20:7 as the best proof for what we were doing. May God have mercy on my soul! I welcome a study on this with anyone. Shalom

If this RM (CoC's) was trying to do what the Church in the N.T. was doing, why do they reject the Laws of God and not keep the 7th day Sabbath? (warning... I was CoC for 34yrs and I've studied this in great depth. Please give a Bible only answer)

If the true Church disappeared & had to be restored, then how do you explain Jesus' words to Peter in Matt 1618 that the gates of hell would not prevail against the Church once He built it? Also, when Alexander Campbell united with the Redstone Baptist Association, he had received baptism by immersion from a Baptist minister. However, this was NOT for the purpose of having his sins remitted. Yet later, when he changed his views, he was never baptized for the remission of sins. He apparently held that his BAPTIST immersion was good enough & yet Church of Christ doctrine & practice REQUIRES a person who is previously immersed to be baptized again for the remission of sins today, before they can unite with a Church of Christ congregation. How can you look to Alexander Campbell as a great leader & example in the Restoration Movement (as you have stated in this series) when he never received baptism for the remission of sins, as the Church of Christ now teaches? It must also be mentioned that neither Thomas Campbell, Barton Stone or Walter Scott, who have been mentioned in this series, ever submitted to baptism for the remission of sins AFTER changing their belief on the subject. So, this is not an isolated incident with Alexander. All those who were considered his co-laborers in the work did the same. How could they be looked at as RESTORING New Testament Christianity when they never submitted themselves to what they later came to believe to be PROPER baptism? I have yet to find a Church of Christ member or minister who has addressed this issue. If there is, I have not yet seen a reply.

For many years i was a member of a non-instrumental Church of Christ! Great people. Sweet and sincere worship. Amazing generosity. But eventually i came to feel they were majoring in the minors to the detriment of the cause of Christ. I grieve over the divisions in the "Lord's Church", as they like to call themselves, but the organization of the church and the elements of worship are not the gospel. The redeeming love of God in Christ...His atoning sacrifice and victory over sin and death..... is. Grace is.

Verse 1 Who’s that walkin’ down the road Carryin’ such a heavy load? Sinner, lay your burden down; ‘Cause we’re walkin’ on the heaven road. Chorus 1 And when you’re walkin’ on the heaven road Gonna lay down that heavy load. Jesus said He’d walk along with me, Praise God, glory hallelujah! Chorus 2 I’m singin’ all the way, got sunshine in ev’ry day; Won’t you come along and join me on that heaven road? Verse 2 Young folks walkin’ hand in hand Singin’ with the angel band. Old folks ain’t so tired no more ‘Cause they’re walkin’ on the heaven road. Verse 3 Ain’t no tears, no cryin’ there, Ain’t no sadness anywhere. Ain’t got time to shed no tears ‘Cause I’m walkin’ on the heaven road.

Very nice message brother with all due respect I would just like to encourage to re evaluate our views on the Torah like Jesus said in Matthew 5 not a jot or tittle will change or pass from the law until all is fulfilled and heaven and Earth pass , well in revelations it talks about heaven and Earth passing and we are not there so we should still be keeping Torah , all the commandments that we can that still directly apply to us , there are some that we can't because we're not in the land or there's not a temple but we can still be keeping sabbath which is Saturday , we can still be eating clean and not to earn salvation , but proof of our faith , with Abraham his faith was counted as righteousness but how did he prove his faith , through his actions ♥️📖
