Going to a smaller chain ring gives you some added climbing range, but the biggest changes can be had out back. I run a 10-52 cassette with a Wolftooth 34 oval chainring on my gravel bike. Like how many bikes does CCM make in a year? It's got to be a lot, they must have some advantages of scale. What if, and this is quite a thought experiment, what if CCM made a good, light, aluminum frame, put entry level Shimano and SRAM parts on it, and some basic Kenda wheels and tires ... don't you think they could do that pretty cheap? I wonder about the designers who work for Supercycle, CCM and Raleigh - they must be bike enthusiasts, what do they think of the bikes they help make?

Not all bikes sold by Wal-Mart are bad. Ozark Trail, Kent, Giordano, and Mongoose have made good bikes that are upgradable. It’s more of staying away from the in house brands like that Hyper.
@northwestmountainbikeaddic68743 ай бұрын
Walmart does not make hyper bikes and all bikes no matter the name are made to be sold at walmart, like Mongoose is not the same Mongoose as it used to be and TBH A Schwinn from walmart would be a better bet than a Mongoose unless you can find an Ardor , the frames they sell at walmart are not made to be beat on like a frame or bike bought at a Real bike shop, Don’t house wonder why a Real bike shop doesn’t carry the walmart brands? Because a real bike shop wouldn’t stand by the quaint of walmart bikes
@thebikehippie65623 ай бұрын
@northwestmountainbikeaddic6874 I'd never recommend a Walmart Bike to anyone. However, I really like my Columbia Rambler Klunker I picked up a few years back. Check out my videos with that bike.. But, I definitely wouldn't recommend it to someone new to cycling.

@@chaotic2insanity those bikes brands are all made by a company called pacific cycles. Hyper islittertly mongoose. The one who made this comment is very correct if you ride like at least 5 miles a day you'll outride those bikes quickly. The new g1 is so cheap its worth it but a ridge or trouville isn't. I spent 1200 upgrading a ledge and it never shifted correctly, only to find out the bike was welded together crooked. Kev central has created a niche for upgrading Walmart bikes and Walmart is filling that niche to make money. Theyrejunk frames with junk components, with better components the frame becomes the weak point. My problem is the price jf the bikes were all 200 bucks okay but they want to much for a Walmart bike. Geton a bike from a local bike shop any brand, it feels so much more solid and stable
@chaotic2insanity3 ай бұрын
@@destroystreets1023 it’s a hit or miss with those bikes from the big box stores. Quality has lacked on some of the well known brands too and if I remember some have had recalls. Shimano had that 105/Ultegra quality control issue where the cranks were breaking mid ride. The only plus side to buying from a local bike shop is the in house mechanic that can catch things before it’s displayed on the shop floor. Also that the well known brands offer a 5-10 year warranty on the frame. I’m more of a direct to consumer guy currently ride on a Polygon Strattos S5 disc road bike. I rode a few Treks, Gary Fisher, Motobecane and a mongoose. They all feel the same or more so on the uneven surfaces, bumps, and so on. It just takes one good crash and the bikes are toast regardless of brand. I am still searching for the unicorn of bikes…

a little birdy told me, there will be a new upgraded version coming out in the second quarter of this year. I hit my mech on rocks and trees a lot, it's all scratched, and has a lot of play in the parallelogram. It's now a little harder to adjust correctly (bought as soon as it came out so around 4 years old), and a slightest bend in the hanger makes it impossible. It's probably not helping it, that I now have a KMC chain, rather than original box. I reckon the cassette will last me at least another 4 years, it's absolutely solid. Shifter, despite the flimsiness, still working ok - I.E. a little hard to shift to larger cogs (I think this has more to do with large jumps between gears), but not any worse, then right out of the box, and has no play.

I recommend using Loctite 243 to keep bolts secure for longer. It makes a massive difference during rapid temp changes. Renthal Apex Stem holds on with Loctite 243 holds on for months, before it even gets slightly loose by maybe 1 deg. And that's trough winter too with various temps from plus to subzero down to -10C, taking bike out from room temp to -10C, no problem. But Race Face Atlas stem, is hopeless, it comes loose in 10 mins, cured Loctite does not help. At least 243 don't. Those stems were so annoying I got rid of them as soon as I could, I had two same issue. I had to check before, during ride, after each ride. with Renthal Apex I don't have to. I know it's secure. but of course a hard impact will loosen the Loctite and rotate the stem out of place. But dropper posts and seat posts with two bolt clamp seem to be hopeless, they will come loose. My bike is a Geometron G1, no bolts come loose, only one came loose, once when bike was new, but that just needed fresh Loctite, probably something wrong with the Loctite or too little, or missing I don't remember, but never had this afterwards and I shredded hard on it. Nothing ever comes loose on the bike. Only caliper bolts once the Loctite wears out, or after many months of stem but by then it's fork service time. Valve cores from time to time, but that's easy to fix.valve nut too.
@mtbboy19933 ай бұрын
0:56 How to clean the valve: If it's a badly designed lave you can't clean it without solvents. This was the case with Cush Core valves, they were impossible to clean, maybe if I got a solvent, there was no hole at the bottom, only sides. If it's something like Stzy tubeless valves then you just remove the valve core, use a pick to poke at one end then the other end. No solvents needed, as there is a hole at the bottom, big enough for a pick. and it can be tightened with a hex too. Others have done this at later point too, but Stzy was the first to have the whole package, all features. How to fix clogged valve core: deflate, remove valve core, pull the topp out,use nail or pick to get the worst off, then use a pic to get the stuff out inside,, then do the same on the other side, but stuff stuck inside might be hard to remove, but solvents to remove sealants exist.
@thebikehippie65623 ай бұрын
@mtbboy Johannes? Sorry if I spelled your name wrong. My valve stems were cheap. I'll probably just buy new ones. I can get air in, it's just difficult. I need new sealant. I'll try to clean em out when I replace sealant 👍
@mtbboy19933 ай бұрын
@@thebikehippie6562 Spelling is right. I don't know which type you got. but I recommend to get valves that has the features I mentioned, anything else, is not worth getting. Might be cheap copy cat options. But the STZY I got are decent enough, and got the features I always wanted, like they read my mind, but they released a new version with bigger holes, so will be even easier to clean. Might be others doing similar design. if so I don't remember them. But usually other options are missing at least one of the features STZY offers.
