The elements of the dance are beautifully done with sharpness then fluidity! Some of you may not like my next comment… the facial expressions I find unnatural and contrived at times throughout the dance. This is a problem in the dance world. Expression begins behind the eyes! Open mouths, popping jaws, scowling and other strange expression has no place on the floor. My suggestion to anyone performing or competing is to watch yourself on video and your facial expressions. You all have great technical skills, now fix that one!!

I agree with the sharpness and fluidity of their level of performance. But their facial expressions are very unnatural and extreme and maybe showing too much expression. And it looks intimidating, unpleasant, scarey and sometimes ugly. This does not pleasing to the eye. Dancing is supposed to be happy, pleasant or sensual or at least interesting. LoL Mistykitten1

@@debratharp4027 Hi Debra, your evaluation is on point! Expression is nuanced and subtle in real life! Not what we see on the competitive dance floor today.

@@debratharp4027 Hello Debra, I’ve had many wonderful coaches throughout my career. Tommy Patterson, Victoria Regan, Bob Powers, and many others. Each influenced my dancing and teaching style. I have been apart of the dance industry for 30 years now. I don’t claim to be, or ever have been a champion. I teach all forms of rhythm, latin, standard, and smooth dance standards, as well as theater arts..My beliefs of how dances are expressed and movement are accomplished are very defined. I believe a natural elegance and suppleness for the women should always be present. From the men, a strong supportive manliness with out being over bearing. As always, a natural expression through the eyes and face for both partners. I take pride that my students are sought after by other instructors because of the way they dance. They know who their teacher is the moment they see them move.

@@franksliwa362 Absolutely, Frank. Particularly the last part about men and women dancers. I saw that back in 1980's. It has been awhile since I have danced. Mainly, Pro/Am on the East Coast. I took from Joe Jenkins, third in the World Modern, Beverly Donahue, US Professional and Ron Bennett, US Professional Latin. And a few other visiting coaches. At the time I danced in competition, I was very young. I danced before the college students made it to the scene of competition dancing, so there were no young men to dance with me. I was stuck in Pro/AM. Then, I had to save my money for college and my mother passed so I did not have the money to dance. But I did see many great dancers and shows. Do you still dance? Sincerely, Debra Tharp

Their dance is very expressive. Hope that their joints will last for their lifetime. There was much extended and extreme movement of their hips, arms and legs, meaning over-extending the joint in an exagerated movement. In time, there would be over use of the joint then possibly injury. They are much too young and too good for that to happen. I would not want to see them hurting. They dance well at their style of dance performance, but it did not feel too much like latin. It had a classical feel to the dance, which they might want to save that for show numbers and not competition. I am concerned though. I hope that they are taking their supplements and have proper warm-ups and cool-downs. Even the guy is extending his hip movement. The girl is slight of build and should be careful of her bones. I am not sure of their ages. But, I can remember dancing many decades ago and what problems that I had after dancing and competing at high levels of dance. Best of Luck, Mistykitten1

With a proper care and keeping the body on that level of movement and having a proper usage of the muscles and joints it will be fine. But it’s a lifestyle. Once you stop practicing you’ll start losing it. My yoga teacher is 75 and what she can do in her body is incredible. I feel I’m old compare to her and I’m 35.

This is exactly what a rhumba should be. It flows and moves continuously, with hesitancy, depth and passion, and joy... everything in life. Sheer perfection. Best rhumba ever. Period. I've been around for a long time. I'm an older person; I know what I'm talking about. Bravo. Bravo!
