I was 17 in 1965, worked as an apprentice to front end Man at a Pontiac dealer. I was told Ford Mtr. Company wanted a 3 speed manual transmission design that was by GM so they did some kind of deal to trade the stacked headlight design for the transmission. I,(with the help of my Father) ordered a new 1965 GTO, I was able to own and drive it almost a year before I got a notice from Uncle Sam to join the party in S.E. Asia when I returned home my Dad had paid off the car and my Mom drove it for years. Great memories for sure and the bonus has always been I made it home to meet my great grand daughter. Thank you for making an old Mans day.

I knew Bruce Logan out here in Los Angeles back in the 80s.I used 2 C him at the Pomona Swapmeet and at the junkyard in Wilmington a few times. He was trying 2 sell the Ram-Air 5 heads and intake manifold at the Pomona Swapmeet a few times, but nobody bought them.I think he was trying 2 sell them 4 around $2,000.The last time I heard anything about him is that he moved back 2 Connecticut back in the early 90s.Phil Bauman came over 2 my house and wanted 2 take pictures of my 69 GTO 4 his newsletter. He never did and I wasn't very impressed by him.I remember he stopped printing the newsletter without any warning 2 people and many were upset because some had just renewed there subscriptions.I was 1 of the first people 2 subscribe 2 that newsletter in 1979 when I saw an ad about if in Hot Rod magazine.

Mike? SWEET engine!! But, please just call it a Sock Motor. This is what they were called back in the day. Also please know that earlier models had the plugs going in the other side of the heads just like if you flipped your heads around the other way; the plugs would end up being between the exhaust ports, instead of between the intake ports!!!

@@thethrottlestop I'm Steve, the guy with the 64' Mercury Comet Cyclone- thanks so much for interviewing me that was a treat! Especially considering the month of June 1994 is when I bought it as a bare shell and baskets of parts. Good catch on mentioning the 271hp reference- but it's not a K-code Hi-Po 289, just a standard 289 block. The motor is actually 302 cubic inches as it was bored .030 over when it was completely rebuilt back in 2010. Thanks again!

I think those 2nd gen firebird and camaros with no spoiler look like the last car built on a Friday. 25 yrs ago I went down to arizona to purchase a rust free 70 camaro but that deal fell thrrough. I Stumbled on a 72,000 original mile 1971 T/A 455HO and bought it, wish it had the manual trans. This T/A had a rust hole in the trunk lid under the spoiler. The car came with a extra trunk lid, sure did look like that trunk lid came off of jim rockfords firebird.😀
