I watched this film yesterday for the third time or so. This time in my one year old cinema setup with 160" screen and 5.1 system (all speakers are extremely good hifi / full range).. the last 2 times were on a cheap china-television / pc-monitor. Interesting for me is the huge difference between watching just this scene today and watching the full movie yesterday. Isolated scenes do NOT work, the movie only works as whole. It is such an immersive sensation that you are completely into it. This movie is my all time favorite, the camera does an incredible job, as also Johnny does. Everything about it is absolutely psychedelic. I understand, why lots of prudish people out there even dont get the point of it and rate it 2/5 stars or something like that. But for me it is a blank 5, considering it even better than some other 5-movies.

Hunter S. Thompson is a National fucking Treasure. He captured the true American Dream in his stories, articles and essays. The man lived and died on his own terms and was truly unequivocally free.

You know what is my favorite part of this story, the fact Duke (And I'm going to assume Thompson too) didn't give a shit about any part of the race, like not only they don't know who won, they didn't even see the trucks, which this was the only year in the Mint 400's history to have trucks

He actually did care a ton about the race though, but eventually came to realization that there is no hope in getting any good coverage with the dust.
