My son lives in western Massachusetts since 2017 and I learned to realize with time that is a great place to live . Affordable houses compared to other parts of the country like Florida or California. Yes it a quieter type of life but super nice . So I wouldn’t be so negative about Massachusetts. 😊

Stoneham isn't known for good school systems. It's a bit run down actually. The location is great though.

I first moved to BURLINGTON in 1966 when the BURLINGTON MALL was a empty sand pit and bought a 6 room Cape Cod style house for $ 19,000 and my mortgage was $149 a month. Trying to get anything like that now to fit your weekly salary is Impossible.

Are you asking if I can make a video about senior communities or just respond here? There are so many, there are 55+ buildings without any assistance from medical professionals, there are assisted living communities in almost every town, which interests you the most?

I am from the third poorest town in Massachusetts Orange and even there the homes have skyrocketed in value for example my mom's home she bought a 1984 for 64,000 It was worth $65,000 in 2018 now she's selling it and it's appraised for about $275,000! The town is still as poor in crappy as ever if you can get an online job it's a cheap place to live otherwise you go to drive to Worcester to get a good job to talking about an hour drive each way everyday.

Lived in Wakefield in the early 80's, loved all the surrounding towns also. Worked in Woburn, lived in Wakefield, walked around the lake regularly. Had many friends in Stoneham. Now back on the North shore and retired. Miss the old days. Thanks for the presentation.

People making these schemes seem to have zero clue about economics. The only way to solve housing affordability in the long term is to have more supply. PERIOD. And the only way to have more supply is for the state to get a handle on local zoning restrictions, allowing denser builds. We seem to have forgotten in this country how free market economics work.
@BostonAreaHomes
@BostonAreaHomes Ай бұрын
Actually, that’s what they are trying to do. MA is enforcing new laws for each area that is close to train stations- commuter rail and subway. There are plans in place in many towns to build new townhouses and condominium buildings. The towns close to Boston are going to get much denser.

@@BostonAreaHomes I think you mean the MBTA communities law, which is a step in the right direction. Obviously, the state has interest in maximizing the impact of public transport projects. But, I'm arguing that this is trying to micromanage the issue, by finding spots where the state encourages denser housing. By why even allow restrictions on multi story housing anywhere? Developers' self interest will only locate them in areas where the infrastructure allows. They aren't going to spend millions building them in the middle of nowhere. Other than industrial zones, what's the benefit of residential/commercial zoning? Who gets harmed if a multi level building goes up in a neighborhood of single family houses, or if a store opens up in such neighborhood?

One thing that the US always had was lots of land, so they built communities accordingly. Now that there is more population, they will adjust. In Europe land was always scarce so they built differently. It’s a natural process of growth, and growth always comes with pain. Opposition doesn’t want more traffic, lots of construction under their noses and they feel that they will loose their right to quiet enjoyment. The planning is badly done sometimes, creating bottlenecks and making local residents mad. In Belmont, they artificially narrowed Trapelo rd, and now the rush hour traffic sits at the intersection for hours polluting the local residents’ air. So, just erecting big buildings here and there without planning well is only going to hurt communities. I hope they do it right, though, I really hope. Thanks for your comments.

I grew up in Belmont, was suprised to hear it was 8th for rank in schools theres a Belmont hill school as well, and as far as I know Newton North was always ranked 1 but you have it here as 37th . Wow those house prices are crazy high 2.9 mil for a house in Cambridge and 1.6 in Belmont ouch. As far as the weather the weather its perfect for 6 months and cold for 6 lol , its not all rainy or all hot and humid, nothing like Florida heat yes some rain, more than usuall these days lol . Overall if you like busy and can affrod the prices go closer to Boston and if you like less busy and cheaper go an hour away or more from the city

What do you think? We are desperately in need of affordable housing and since the government is not going to save all the communities in U.S., another option that is becoming very popular is an additional tax when buying or selling expensive homes. But is $1M considered an expensive home now? It's definitely not a Mansion by the Boston standards in 2024, it's just a middle class home. Would it create an additional burden on middle class families? I like the progressive kind, so the more expensive the property, the higher the percentage that you have to pay in the Mansion tax. I am really curious what your opinion is about this.

It should also be said, that with that vibrant student culture, comes a LOT of petty crime, which often doss not get reported. If you live downtown, you can expect super loud parties, and hordes of drunk and disorderly people with often very bad behavior <they dont call it Zoo Mass " for nothing> Also, there are a lot of drugs in the area, <local towns have emergency Narcan in the parks and libraries to stop people from dying from ODs> and with the college partying and drugs comes a lot of unreported petty crime, ranging from drunk and disorderly to petty theft and assaults. The area seems pristine and idyllic on the outside, but if you actually live there your experience can be very different

Amherst is not a place to live if you are poor and working class. If you are working class, chances are , the gentrification has already pushed you out ,or you are holding on by a thread. The area is also only "family friendly" if your idea of family is exceptionally progressive. If you are at all even remotely Conservative ,, or God forbid a Christian with traditional values, this area will not be a good place for you..

No Newton? When I graduated from Newton South high school in '86 it was one of the top 100 public high schools in the nation. My parents told me they specifically chose Newton to settle in because of the excellent school system. It must have fallen in ranking. Pity.
