Do you think the Yamahas could be a good as just a digital piano monitor? Would it decay much on the lower end (around A1)?

yup they would definitely feel thin around a1 (55 hz) they start to play from around E2 key (C#2 flkeys which is 66-69hz) if you need extension i would go with T5V adams if they are cheap around your area

I returned the unit within 30 day window, more people had the same problem, I think the noise gating issue is the "feature" of this sub. No way it's not intentional behavior

Compared with genelec that features 100W of Class-D amplification driving a 5 1/8” woofer and 3/4” metal-dome tweeter, the yams are super good 😂

What is your opinion on how they compare?

Genelec very neutral with lots of lower mid that is not as present on Yamaha. Yamaha lots of resonances and uneven upper mid. However Yamaha is very quick nice transients and very forward revealing sound. I would use Yamaha only for checking mixes or mixing (but you need to check low end elsewhere) absolutely not for mastering only as second monitor. As for genelec well you get what you pay for almost hifi sounding treble very clean over spectrum perfect for mixing and mastering. If you already have genelec, Yamahas offer different perspective to mids and might reveal some harshness in upper mids
