Answer to overlay question @5:11 -- Because Exposition. More deeply, how would the Graf know *anything* about the spell or the scale or its significance or it judging fairly if Aura has never been defeated? Let us invent that as part of the Hero's party driving off Aura, but not fully defeating Aura, 80 years prior, the info in this exposition reveal was gathered in some way. Also, your question @5:44 the most logical way for Aura THE GUILLOTINE to control the recalcitrant will of a puppet is to GUILLOTINE (well, decapitate with a sword or axe but THE GUILLOTINE way cooler as a character name) that body, eliminating will altogether.

Just a note: "Sousou no Frieren" is the Japanese name of the series. It was originally mistranslated by manga fans as "Frieren at the Funeral," but it's really more "Frieren _of_ the Funeral." The one who sends you to your grave. It's thus a title drop and a statement on just how much of a badass she really is.

"Himmel is long gone, isn't he?" - You could just feel the temperature drop like a rock after she said that. Oh, Aura. You gon' die _nasty,_ now. In the meanwhile, Fern is demonstrating what it's like to be the fantasy equivalent of an A-10 Thunderbolt.

I might be wrong here, but I think Stark fight is somehow connected to that part of episode 6 where they show us how everything, even his master, seemed bigger when he was younger. I'm inclined to think that it's not that Aisen's blows were heavier (or, at the very least, not ONLY that), but instead that Stark has become way stronger and is now able to stand those blows

First of all, I don't understand English so I apologize if my English is a bit weird. This anime is beautiful, funny, and sad. I'm sure you know this, but even with English subtitles, names of people and places are in German. Also, this anime places great importance on the dialogue, and it's full of great quotes. Also, this is a work that places more importance on inner feelings than flashiness. Also, YOASOBI's OP has an English version called "The Brave". Please give it a listen if you like.

Stark's initial disadvantage fighting against Linnie was more mental than physical. He always thought he could not surpass Eisen, so seeing someone wielding his techniques really didn't help his psyche, which led him to be disadvantaged in the fight. The same is true for Fern and how she feels she can never surpass Frieren. However, in this episode, we finally see her in action. We get so caught up with how powerful Frieren is that we forget to realize how powerful Fern is in her own right. This idea is proven with how she just Slams Lugner. Also the reason Fern fires off her spells so fast is very symbolic of how she always had to "train fast" to prove herself a worthy mage before Heiter the priest died. It just reinforces the disparity in time perception between Fern and Frieren and how Fern is always in a hurry. So the credit to Fern's skill isn't necessarily "because of how Frieren trained her", but moreso how Fern really pushed herself to learn magic since she was little. Finally, Aura gets rid of the will of those who she subdues with her scales by beheading them.

Totally agree, though I want to add something: Fern has also been using that version of Zoltraak for a huge percentage of her life. She has grown learning it, making it her own, while Frieren (and other mages) have had to learn it while older and having more spells in their repertoire at that moment, so Fern can use it more by instinct than some

Not really. It's like trying to seperate paints after mixing them; where would you even begin? It's no longer either of what it once was. Also, in the 2003 version, we get confirmation that even existing was painful for the Nina-Alexander Chimera. "Why does it hurt here...?"

there will be a hint at it, but not really explained... warriors enhance their abilities of fighting an moving through the natural mana in their body... mages, priests and such use mana outward, warriors and probably the "hero class" use mana inward basically

5:31 Even if you know what he looks like, do you ever expect to see George Washington walking around? Or really any celebrity? Even people who run into them often have that moment of uncertainty "hey, is that really so and so?. Tony Hawk is a world famous name and face, known for not being recognized as Tony Hawk. Like, it wouldn't even cross your mind that you're running into the world famous person the statue in your town is for.

the ending of this ep goes so hard, with Lugner's monologue and the absolutely FIRE ost. Also really worth mentioning the contrast portrayed here, Zoltraak was described by Frieren herself as the invention of an exceptional mage (Qual), and yet it was overcome in less than 100 years, meanwhile some of Flamme's spells are still unmatched after a thousand years, most likely the most prodigious talent in magic's history, her only weakness was being born a human, not having time on her side.

it would be tough without prior knowledge to reject Lugner, he made perfect sense, if Granat's son was killed recently he maybe would not have listened, but since he's not blinded by rage right now, i think the made the "right" choice, if we evaluate by human standards, unfortunately we already know it's actually not the right choice, but it seems almost no one knows the ture nature of demons.

Guysssss relax with the hints. Maybe you are not revealing things but some commenta create some expectations and theories just by pointing stuff like that. I know it's not done with malice, actually probably out of excitement, but be careful Now, about what you said at 15:30: I think that the setting and main plot of the story is a great cathalyst to explore themes, world building and characters. They have an objective, but they're not in a hurry, the world isn't gonna end, so that allows the story to breathe and to be used to expand on the different things that are brought to us, and the author does an amazing web creating that web that links so many different things and in different ways. Not to mention, it is so nice to see that, despite all those connections, characters are not copies of other characters, and everyone has distinct personality traits regardless of some similarities between some stuff. Something like this would probably be achievable with more urgent tasks, though, by using something like Himmel's perspective on going out on such an adventure, but it definitely is easier to have this incredible storytelling by having the Demon Lord already dead haha
