Everything said is true. Another reality is facing rude clients proving to be right when they are actually super wrong. Making wrong decisions for their events despite your warnings and when it all goes south, guest tend to point blaming fingers at the event planner. This happens a lot where I come from.

Who is usually responsible for the email marketing side of things? I'd like to specialize in this specific area since I have email marketing experience via activecampaign. Maybe I can talk to someone in the comments who is a planner and could answer some questions for me.

Having worked on various event projects, including a music festival for 50K attendees and private luxury brand receptions, I'd say working in events can be very exciting and those moments on the day X are fulfilling, but unless you have a huge stamina and are extremely stress - resistant, you are most likely to burnout quickly on the job, like I did. So explore and volunteer and see for yourself. Events is a rather easy industry to get into through volunteering.

How to get diversity? Make a good event, and people will come to you. There is no need to virtue signal and shove diversity down peoples throats. If your products is good, people will come to you.

As with every other job out there, there is pros & cons. Events planning is not for everyone. what this lady says here are more applicable for those working in events management agency/firm. Long hours, handling clients etc. There are many alternatives apart from working in an event agency firm which gives you a lot more work life balance as an events person. Open your mind & take this with a pinch of salt.

I loved this. As an event planner for 14 years, I think you were spin on. I would love to see a video about characteristics or personality types of an event planner. I think we tend to all have attributes very much in common.

SB writer and speaker To start a wedding planning business: One: make a Facebook, Instagram for free website, and offer your services for less to gain some clientele, work experience, and experience. Internet is free marketing. Go online, and decide where you want to fit in the wedding industry because there is a lot of niches do you want to coordinate the day of? Be a rental company for linens? Do you want to do centerpieces? Do you like to design? Find what your good at get some experience, and run with it! Look at other event planners, and see what’s in trend and start creating, if you don’t have money for inventory start with DIY projects if you want to be a decorator, before wedding planning start planning kids events, small scale partners then ease into higher guest count events, before you know it your family will be asking for your services then you will start to get word of mouth clientele, but social media is your best friend when marketing. Create a mood board on Pinterest for projects. Also one of the best subscriptions for event planners is honey books, or else you will be micromanaging your head off and you will forget things.
