I think this system has a frequency valve. The nature of the rpm drop at idle..the way it suddenly cuts out and raises back up again, seems electrical . The frequency valve is electrical. I would rule out any relay controlling it and or the electrical connection to it. On my VW with CIS injection, it is easy to diagnose because the dang thing buzzes so dang loudly when it's working. Yours may not be as buzzy. Hope this helps. Good luck! You may dread this car, but of a CIS guy like me, this content is awesome. Keep it up!

The auxiliary air valve is open when the engine is cold to add air in concert with a cold enrichment valve (aka warm up regulator) and closed when warm. They are supposed to open and close in time with the heating and cooling of the engine. Essentially, it adds rpm while the engine is cold and running rich. Heating and cooling cycles take a while, therefore, the axillary air valve moves slowly. That is my understanding, anyway. Love the content you produce, keep it up!

Road and Track article on the 928 back in '78 made mention of the loud fuel pumps audible inside the car. My '79 is the same way. Mine has both internal and external pumps. Decel valve slows the rpm drop when you release the throttle and you might hear a little popping in the exhaust when decelerating after you delete it. Also, without decel valve if you blip the throttle, rpms will dip below idle then stabilize. AAV should close fully, otherwise you'll get erratic idle speeds.

Yes to all you said, I even reduced the number of videos I release from 1 per week to 1 per month, to focus on other things (like building the new garage I'm making), but I still try to deliver videos with content that will help and motivate people instead of just entertain for some minutes and be forgotten. I read a comment here in this video "Just build what you love and share whatever you want.", I agree 100%. Thanks for the videos Jeff and I have to say, what a beautiful image and sound quality you had in this one. The colors of the cars are really cool and filled the screen. Cheers from Brasil, Paulo

The major issue is the crank centerline. Not really able to drop the engine far enough to get the driveline to match up. Would have to cut the steering rack out of the equation completely.

Hi from Australia. Throttle Grotto, "Home built by Jeff' and "Tools and track" are my three go-to weekly watches. What keeps these three as standouts, is that they show a 100% accurate, warts and all insight into modifying and working on cars, and that really resonates with me and my own car projects. These three channels are head and shoulders above the blizzard of shallow, unrealistic car mod channels that magically get it all done in a weekend with no fuss, to which I call bullshit! Keep going with your projects and show us what you are up to when you get a chance. We are all watching and genuinely interested in what you are doing.

You certainly dont give yourself enough credit for the stuff you accomplish. Just because your channel doesnt get thousands of views within hours doesnt mean the content is lacking in any way. In the end, if anything, it shows the reality of building cars instead of the glamour that most big channels try to project. 👍🏼

Great to see your still in one piece 😂. But would it have been easier to upgrade the pump in the tank or bigger pipes from tank to engine under the car ? Or is it all down to the mk1 golfs / rabbit swirl pot being no good ?
@ThrottleGrotto
@ThrottleGrotto 26 күн бұрын
I could have mounted the aem pump on the cabriolet sending unit. But that part was degrading and is more difficult to source. This solution isn't esthetically as nice looking, but should be easier to get parts for longer.
@stevenharpervw
@stevenharpervw 26 күн бұрын
@@ThrottleGrotto what was the main problem ? Lack of a swirl pot ? I do like the idea now that any mk4 pump will fit it in and even if you change engines or any upgrade it’s kind of future proofed . I’ve gotten a mk1 tintop 3 door in the shed, no engine. I was thinking ahu tdi . But enjoying your bunny rabbit build . Oh so on my cabriolet mk1 I have rabbit badges for the front and rear thanks to being super cheap on eBay 😅 but at every show I go to people always ask what’s with the bunny rabbit badges 😂
@ThrottleGrotto
@ThrottleGrotto 26 күн бұрын
@@stevenharpervw how do they not know that it was a rabbit in the us? I think the 2 main problems were the bent fuel line and the less than ideal pump. An AHU tdi would really be a lot of fun, I had a mk3 TDI bunny a while back and it was hilarious.
