Funny thing about Unicorn Academy, I watched the pilot episode/movie because I was first introduced to it via a collaboration event between the (then unreleased) show and a roblox horse game of all things (Wild Horse Islands if yk yk). Unfortunately I think my expectations for the show were a little too high, I went into it expecting a crappy modern kids show and left not particularly impressed, but I could acknowledge it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. I think I should probably watch the pilot again with a less critical lens considering whimsical magic schools are one of my untapped dream stories (Harry Potter doesn’t count even if I like it, it’s the dough for magic schools nowadays, everyone does Harry Potter, I want somethin’ new that’s actually done well lol) As for your actual designs, I think Izzy, Hitch and Sunny are my favorites, the really scruffy mane works wonders for Hitch and same goes for Izzy’s crazy curls. I like that you kept the color palettes the same since a lot of G4 redesigns just completely change the color palettes and it gets kinda old. Your designs show the actual colors for the characters are alright, it’s just that the 3D models and ‘realistic’ lighting don’t do them much justice. Good stuff ❤️

personally, I don't think media should shy away from real life politics. Politics is just a part of life, whether you agree with the propaganda or not my problem (personally) with G5's approach is that the stereotypes aren't grounded on any foundation. It would make more sense, for example, if the pegasi were stereotyped as "posh" or "bratty" because they live in a high-tech society. Every bad name has come from a few bad apples, that's how stereotypes even happen, and it frustrates me that the G5 writers haven't even thought of that. Racism and ignorance are nonsensical, but can we make this story even make sense if you're even gonna make ponies racist and ignorant??? (inform me if I'm being insensitive/uninformed please)

Now you've got me missing some gorgeous mane-flipping action from Hitch. It's something I didn't know I needed until now. I've been getting much more into G5 this past week and a half despite having already been vibing the songs from the movie for the longest time. And since I began spending more time watching clips from Make Your Mark, it's safe to say that Hitch has become my favorite character of this gen. Still, I do greatly enjoy all of the mane cast. And of course they all look incredible the way you've drawn them! I love that Izzy's design takes inspiration from the Friesian horses, I think it definitely suits her really well. Pipp is gorgeous and I love the unique fluffy wings so much. And, I don't like their 2D designs, either. They're all wrong, especially the faces and I'm pretending they don't exist.

i know part of the reason why hair in animation has gotten less texture over the years is because of a push for stream lining the animation process

One thing I've notice about Gen 5 naming is that it's a bit too real. Izzy Moonbow, Hitch Trailblazer, and Pipp Petals, while not bad names, it's just a mouthful for anyone to be saying over and over again. For example you wouldn't say "Do you understand the the math problem Stephani Renie?" you'd probably would say "Do you understand the the math problem Stephani?" Compared to names like Pinkie Pie, Apple Jack, and Rainbow Dash, where it's that it's their first and last name (Although there are people who belive that it's just their first names), it easy enough for a character like Rarity to address them by their full name, while others might address them as Pinkie, Apple, and Rainbow. This isn't to say you shouldn't name characters like Gen 5's, we have cases like Twighlight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer being addressed be their first names, while only being addressed by their full names on special occasions (i.e: Introductions, ceromonious, or confrontation). If it were up to me I would change some of the Gen 5 names. It wouldn't be grand changes, just flipping their names around or removing their first/last name. Like I would take away Hitch's first name and address him as Trailblazer, his nicknames (as corny it might sound) could be Blaze or Blazer. Zipp and can be just be Princess Zephyrina and Pipp can be Princess Petal Pipp, so that they can keep their Pipp and Zipp nicknames. That's just how I would do it, I'm sure someone could come up with a way better solution to this.

I personally really love when artists to redesigns in their own style, it gives it such a personal touch! Also thank you for speaking up about Palestine, all eyes on Rafah 🇵🇸

I'm in love with these redesigns! Especially Pipp and Hitch, definitely an upgrade I think your art style is very recognizable and different enough to stand out, but it's cool to try new things and find what makes you confortable as a content creator and artist (maybe I'm going through a similar process with my drawings too, relearning everything I thought I knew)

Edit: also when g5 was first coming out, there were some theories that Pipp had underdeveloped wings and wouldn't be able to fly - I'm honestly kind of dissapointed her cute fluffy wings (as pretty as they are) were just a design choice. It would've been so interesting seeing a pegasus who didn't regain flight after the rest of her kind did. Wishful thinking, wishful thinking.

I’m kind of working on a spin-off to Winx Club, but when I did the art for them, I didn’t use the art style from Winx Club, because I could only do it for the girls. I couldn’t do it for the guys.

To me, saying "don't bring politics into (insert thing here)" is just another way of saying "I'm afraid of voicing my own thoughts so I'll let other people do the talking for me". Nothing good ever comes from letting other people do the talking for you. Love the redesigns BTW, they look way more horselike. If these were real toys I'd buy them myself

Okay I have no idea if you redesigned the main villain or not but like I need to vent about opaline SHE LOOKS LIKE A FREAKING GRANDMA Like I have no idea why they decided to give her that design a dark body with white hair and cyan highlights not to mention her hair it does not go at all with her ears like why are they braided around her ears isn't that uncomfortable!? Its like if they wanted to go the sweet manipulative villain route they should have gone with a white coat and dark purple hair with cyan highlights and maybe don't braid her hair around her ears On the contrary if they wanted it to be obvious she was a villain a dark purple coat with cyan hair I believe would have been better then f****** white hair what the hell were they thinking and still that hairstyle would not work All they had to do was swap around the colors a little bit like what the hell!? Yay! G5 has so much missed potential and the designs feel so... Disney-ified? Edit: About the cutie marks. I remember thinking the same thing about g5 ponies not having them and was actually genuinely disappointed when I realized they DID. I thought it would've been a really cool idea to see them all earn their cutie marks and figure out who they are. But alas. No such luck. Another missed opportunity.
