While I own a few motorcycles in my 59 years on this planet, my 73' DT250 is definitely one of my favorites of all time. People are always asking " what year is that" or saying "my buddy had one back in the day." I took it out for a spin about 4 hours ago and I'm still smiling. Awesome little machine that was way ahead of its time.

The wobble is real. Kenda K270s front rear that's what I have. Happens at higher speeds around 40 to 80 mph but it happens when they're new.... I think. I've probably put down like a thousand or more miles on them at this point and I haven't felt it in a while. And I'm talking about just riding upright and not leaning into corners and I haven't actually felt the wobble whilst leaning into Corners maybe I haven't leaned in far enough but I feel like I'm leaning a lot like around 60 - 65° angle. I love how tall these tires are give me a solid half inch over competitors giving my ride height more ground clearance seems to perform well on Highway and on the dirt and don't lose traction as much as I thought I would. Answer that and I have a medium sized dirt bike trail bike kind of thing you know the XR250L 291 pounds wet leaning into corners I've gotten pretty comfortable doing it side knobs are pretty durable no chunking at all.

Jim .... I have a XR650L that was ridiculously high.... I lowered it 4" front and rear... here's how I did it...1) bought handle bar risers which raised the handle bars 1" but allowed me to get them out of the way for the forks to come up. 2) I added 1/2" of steel to an adjustable lowering link that was supposed to drop the bike 2" but that was not enough for me (30" inseam) so I added 1/2" of steel to the adjuster and lowered it to where I could flat foot the bike and locked it down..... touching the ground with just the balls of your feet is not low enough you need to go lower , Yes I am aware that they do not make a lowering kit that lowers any bike more than 2" so make your own plates add 1/2" to 3/4" and make your own or have the welding shop make them for you. take one off and take it to him and tell him to make you 2 that are 1/2" to 3/4" longer between the center of the bolt holes !!!!! it's that easy i noticed in your video that your handle bars do need raised so you have max control a set of handle bar risers would do you alot of good and allow the front to go down even more.... so the end results is a XR650L (stock seat height 37") lowered to aprox. 31" seat height uncompressed. I softened up the pre load as well and took a long knife to the foam on the seat..... and your right I need a seat concepts seat ! LOL an hours ride makes my butt hurt ! for 2 days !!! it's just too thin a seat ! the rear swing arm on my bike is just shy of horizontal on it it is horizontal and I have no handling problems at all with this setup. being short really sucks !!!

I’m with you !! I learned to ride with my first motorcycle. It was a 1971 CT Honda 70 in 1971 . I was 11 years old. Soon later I moved up to a Yamaha 1971 175 . In 1973 my father brought me A Honda XL 175 burnt orange or Halloween orange. I loved that bike . These days I ride a Road King .

I am using kenda 2.75 21 and 4.10 18 on my 200 CC dirt bike..it has over 130kg of weight..not a light dirtbike..after about 10k km on and off road.. the front still has more than 70% and about 50% on the back so the durability is there..the problem i have like u said the tired are to skinny..not only for the look but it also struggle in muddy terrain espesially the front cause it has closer block pattern and not enough contact surface..in the asphalt i have only 1 complain on heavy rain..but i usually stop when rain start to drop😂

What do you suggest if I have a hole in the tank? I think I left the vinegar in the tank too long and it appears to have eaten through part of the tank. Can it be welded? This might be above my pay grade.

I have a 1974 DT 100A with hole in the gas tank. I am embarrassed to say I may have caused it by leaving some vinegar in the tank too long. I was trying to get rust out. Can it be welded? Could i use a harbor freight welder to fix it?

I have a guy offering a 2003 xt225 with 6k miles on it for $2300? I also found a TT 200 for $2200 with 16k ok it. Thoughts on what bike you think might need better. For more street I would guess the XT? And I’m guessing the TT 200 is better off road?

So I found 2008 TW with 16k miles on it. Or a 2002 Xt with 3,262 miles both for $2200 I got them down. I live in a small city with a little off roading. Just not sure what bike would be best for me.

What kind of oil do you use in this bike? Modern automotive oil really doesn't have enough ZDDP anti-wear additivies for minimum wear of gear teeth, tappets, sprockets, chains, etc.

I'm about to do this for my Honda Shadow. Same problem. I can't see the indicator light in the sunlight. I'm always forgetting to cancel the blinker. But, I am going to try it a little different way. I'm going to connect the buzzer to the indicator light directly.

Great video and I'm sure it's going to help me out with my mods 👍 - just one observation regarding the kickstand. Would cutting and welding back not create a point of failure in the future? As in a point for it to break from? I often kickstart from standing on it so it time I think it might have some stress on it, potentially breaking it. While I still need to document myself on this, I'd say it wouldn't hurt asking around a question or two before modding the kickstand - feel free to share their opinion on this.

I like the way you talk about your dad in your video, it shows how much you respected, and appreciated him. My dad gave me a Honda xl 185 when I was 16, and I had to fix it to keep it, I eventually sold it to buy a dr500, because I needed a bike that could go on the highway to college - I miss those days.

I came here just to hear the sound of the bike. My family rode Yamaha Enduros in the 70's, when I was a really little kid. What a beautiful looking bike, and I'd probably kill myself, but I'd love to have one of the old beasts. My son accuses me of having a well developed nostalgia bias. He's probably right.

Had a K270 on my KLX. Took it off 200 miles later. Dangerous feeling. I wanted to love it cuz those knobs were huge and deep, but thats what u feel moving around underneath u at highway speeds. Nope!!! There is a even a clause on their site saying do not put on heavy dual sports
