A masterpiece of music from an old song. The lyrics are indeed “deep” with meaning. I can’t name the instruments, but certainly the flute type instrumentals through the song add reverence to the singer, in my opinion. I’m not an expert.

The use of the dual trumpets riding above the tumultuous thundering instrumental climax of this song (expertly performed by trumpeter Brothers Pete and Conte Candoli) here reminds me of Richard Williams' and Rolf Erikson's moving trumpet work on side 2 of Charles Mingus' "The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady", a Jazz master work which shares with this classic rock gem a compassion for those disposessed by the human cost of man's inhumanity to man. Bravo to all involved in both musical achievements!
