I'm guessing there are torque wrenches that can torque a bolt that high, but I've not heard of them. I guess truck workshops have them
@RestoMog2 жыл бұрын
Yeah there are but they are appropriately expensive, one community member said their way was to calculate the distance needed using their own body weight to achieve appropriate torque on the bolts

Cool, like the plans what engine du you have, stock turbo? what turbo du you have and what alternator are you going to use? i am also lookinig for alternator but V belt only handel 90 amp and want one whit nut style connctor insead of the old spade plugg
@RestoMog2 жыл бұрын
The stock engine had already been removed and replaced with a Mercedes om617 3.0l 5 cylinder turbo diesel, I have upgraded the turbo to a Holset HE221w. The om617 swap group on facebook has found a Bosch alternator that bolts up and has the correct spacing to use the stock v belt pulley.

@@RestoMog then you should (must) remove the ochsenkopf logo from your account since your vehicle has nothing to do with original Unimog.

@@Superleicht_R107 so using the original chassis, transmission, axles, suspension, cab, and bed frame don't make it a mog, just the engine?
@Superleicht_R1073 жыл бұрын
@@RestoMog It's just so that ALL Unimog (no plural!!) have a Diesel engine. Except the 404. That is one of the special thing about the 404. Therefore it is wrong to make it a Diesel. BUT! There were about 40 pieces in the later years which were delivered to the portuguise army with an OM (oil motor) i. e. Diesel. But more than 64.200 pieces were build with the original M180/II and M130 engine. The purpose of owning an oldtimer is to preserve it (in original condition). So talk to your 404 and if it answers in portuguise, it will be ok. Otherwise the engine is a sacriledge. ;-)

I bought it with the Diesel already, the diesel is one of the best upgrades you can do to a 404, I'd be interested to hear why you don't like them diesel.
@Superleicht_R1073 жыл бұрын
@@RestoMog Just because it is not "original". I have one of the first build 404.111 of 1955 and it is important to keep it as it was build. With such a massive change I wouldn't get the H-numberplate for historic vehicles.
@RestoMog3 жыл бұрын
@@Superleicht_R107 I'm in North America so there is no H license plate for me, they only thing left of the truck other than the frame and axles was the cab so this is long past being "original" I intend to use this as a regular truck and the diesel is a massive improvement.
