Over here in our area I've noticed there seems to be a camp like every 2 to 3 miles along the creeks. Wherever there's deep pools of water.

yes , with mortars in all the flat rocks as proof, each creek I hike is the same, and I agree at least every three miles or every good spot. That's what I mean it would be like coming along after we were gone and looking at our footprint and just choosing a few areas and saying this is where we were when obviously anybody who was here for a decade a century millennium or tens of thousands of years obviously would've inhabited every single inch. let alone the outlying camps and areas like that. And..... I'm a big proponent of the fact that civilizations rise and fall and just because you find people in a more primitive state of Hunter and gather situation, does not mean that that is how they've always existed for the last 30,000 years, and that is often backed up by the megalithic structures littered all over the country, I feel like the West Coast has even less attention and so they just have not been given the designation and respect here as actual megalithic structures, but I see them all over and I see that here like anywhere else has had its rise and fall. history that maybe even the people in the regions may have forgotten themselves over the tens of thousands of years. Or it was lost in the assimilation and destruction of their history . Watching the Europeans hunt for the same types of stone tools in mid evil settings were metal was already being used and we think of it as more of a western civilization , and realizing that there is very little difference between the towns that were here in the towns that were there and the roads that would lead between them and the trading and the civilization and the level of civilization. Someday we will be far enough along from the atrocities which were committed iin these locations to actually thoroughly look at what was here and what has been lost and what we destroyed. Until then we can't say that we know much at all.

Maybe we're walking on Atlantis or the same catastrophic event that took out Atlantis took out a lot of the civilizations in what is now known as the Americans. Some native nations have stories of the great flood 2. Where they had to go into hiding in the mountains in special caves.

Hi Nate. I'm always surprised when your able to come across those Obsidian Tools. It's a constant reminder of those that were here long before you or I walked the Earth (and in those beds too). That Green Chert is always high on my list of 'stones to grab' while rockhounding (wish you offered some in your store). Thanks so much for this weeks adventure, "Quest On"!

Spectacular views! It would be interesting to see the change in the landscape from the fire. That old oak has the best view, no wonder its stayed so long, I wouldnt want to give it up either. I hope it survived. Thank you for sharing.

What a beautiful place! These fires are so bad every year, and getting worse every year. So glad you got some footage of what it used to look like before the wild fires. I hope that the tree, the watcher, survives this! It has already seen so much devastation and survived. I would hate to see it go out like this! My prayers are going out to all of you! 🙏 😢 Thank you Nate!💕

I think the canyon is ok, looks like they cut a massive fire line and held it, and the fire burnt north and away from the park, there is a small city of people staged in Chico and other spots im sure, fighting this, the response is nothing short of a military battle or war.

@@QuestForDetails sooo glad to hear that! It's such a beautiful, almost magical place, in its glory! Now I wish every other place that is subjected to the fires, could also have been spared! Thank you for the positive information Nate!

I got to take a look from a far and looks like most of the canyon is ok, think I see lines where they forced it north and away from it, but cant be sure because of the twists and turns of the canyon but better than I expected as far as the park is concerned.

Beautiful scenery, sorry fire is raging through it. I hope the guardian survives this as well. I was trying to find something positive to say, nature has a way of recovering itself, I bet if you walk through towns/cities, you’ll find small bits of nature growing through the tarmac and cement. Nature is a constant force, destruction and renewal. I don’t know if this was a fire lit by a person or from broken glass, or lightning strikes, but nature always finds a way to heal herself, it may take many many years, but she doesn’t give up, and will reclaim what is hers. Sorry I got on a roll. Thanks for sharing this. Take care x❤

Just found your YT channel this evening. Enjoying your walk along this area and your explanations of the makeup of these rocks/agates/jaspers/etc. I've only been in CA once, 1977, on a cross-country auto trip from CT. Occasionally picked a few stones on that trip, but don't remember if I picked up any in CA. Thanks for sharing.

Hi: I grew up in the Chico area. The town backs up into the foothills with old roads that run up the hills to old towns like Paradise. Rock walls were common. They were made I was told by landowners who used rock instead of wood and wire to build fences. (Rocks cover many areas and are free). I was also told that they used Chinese workers who had worked on the railroads earlier. Those walls that you are seeing along the road could be 'fence lines' and less house walls. There was an old dump up on Hwy 32. A friend's older brother used to go up there and dig for bottles 40 years ago. People also would just park anywhere and toss out a load of trash instead of paying the dump fee. Same thing today. I recall going up the road with friends when we were about 14 years old and shooting our 22s. My friend's dad had told him how to be safe when shooting. Maybe better parenting back then! Today just turn them loose to do whatever. Several of my friends were grandkids of the old gold miners. Some in my family too. Lot's of history. Lots forgotten.

The striations on the obsidian ax-head you found Nate could be glacial pull on a much larger ( and older than you think ) boulder of obsidian. Chunks were probably being broken off as the glacier retreated, leaving chunks of all sizes and one of these pieces was possibly found and worked to become the ax. This is all conjecture but fun to think about and consider, especially if no obsidian is normally found in this area. Excellent artifact finds too! A fun but an arduous journey for this quest. QUEST ON, my friend, quest on! 😊

Wow! Totally cool adventure and those cool arrows heads or spear heads and scrapers are so cool! To be able to touch and hold a piece of history in your hands and know it really was held and used by our ancestors, is awesome! And the rocks! I love the chert but that green? Now that is exceptional! And you guys have soooo much of it around there! And of course your wonderscape stones! They are sooo cool. And I keep looking for some more of your cool decorated stones in the store! Those were so neat and I have grandkids that would absolutely flip their lids for one! But it's a boy and a girl, so I have to be able to afford two of them or they will fight! But they are awesome, and so we're the videos of you making them! Thank you for letting us quest with you. I always learn so much from watching you and your mom! You both are so wonderful! Thank you Nate, and quest on!

Awesome. Crevasse Agate is what you call that? I found a pretty prominent vein of that in the shoreline of a reservoir near me. I took some to one of my old middle school science teachers one day to ask what it was and he had no idea. I keep thinking about going back there to collect some more. I gave it all to Mr. Y that day because he was so interested.
