I have used mirrors to add depth. I personally would have masked off the water portion then air brushed a layered series of colors to represent trees. Then planted trees in front of the painted mirror to help give depth. Normally I use mirrors in yard areas to give the allusion of a much larger yard beyond what is physically seen.

I just love the smell of the epoxy from my days fiber glassing boats...not!!! I switched to woodlands scenics water products, no mixing very little smell when applying over the cotton balls then finishing it off with their water effects product. It works and takes about the same amount of time. If you layer the water in the area you want deep water you can add small objects that can look like fish and cat tails coming through the surface.
@HOScale-bd1yd7 күн бұрын
I want to try that. Thanks.

When you are adding the green or any color to the vertical sides, try using a turkey baster. to suck up the power and blow it on the walls with just a like squeeze of the ball.

Hey Mike, Jamal here! Love what you are doing. I am new to this as well. Here are some tips for you. Don’t paint the grass areas. Use dirt or grout from your local Home Depot. Then put the grass down on top of the dirt or grout makes it look more realistic. The waterfall before you go waste resin which I have done. Seal the area with plaster of Paris and make sure you don’t have any leaks in your area before pouring the resin. Take some water pour it in there if the water leaks you will be able to see what the leaks are prior to pouring resin.
@HOScale-bd1yd19 күн бұрын
I am looking out for that from one of your videos.
@SlotCarsofAtlanta20 күн бұрын
So to make the splash!! 1. Get the snow from woodland scenics put some in a cup 2. Make your resin. 3. Put the cup of snow in the resin. 4. Let it harden for a few hours 5. Take the snow resin and put it on your layout. 6. Let it continue to set up and make it how you want it to look. As far as the water fall with the cotton balls. Make your resin Put the cotton ball in it Put it on the layout Let it harden for 3-4 hours Then start moving it with the tooth pick Don’t pour any resin on the cotton balls If you are going to make the River do that first, then apply the cotton balls after everything has settled
@HOScale-bd1yd18 күн бұрын
Thinking of that. Thanks

I'm always amazed at what you can do with stuff found around your workshop. I think the hobbit holes look great. Once you get the facades touched up the way you want ... they'll look awesome laid into the grassy areas. Looking very cool. Fun (and very relaxing) to watch.

So interesting when you explain what you're doing. Was super impressed with the tie logs and how natural the grass looks afterward on top of the hill. Looks real to me! So cool. I like the 'cabins' idea. Makes so much sense in those spaces up there. This is really coming along nicely!!! Fun to watch and hear what you're thinking as you build everything up. It's so creative how you go about aging and all of these little things you do to make it work. Love it.

Really enjoyed the talk about your grandfather and the overview of what you've got so far. Amazing seeing all of the aspects of your project. I love the landing strip addition to the landscape. I'm an instrument rated pilot myself. You have so much invested, that's very apparent. It's fascinating to think of how this is going to look once you've finished. This is all brand new to me. I've only watched your channel and your brothers (Ken) channel. Both are fun, to me. So I don't really have any valuable/useable ideas for you, but I'm here everytime you post something and look forward to your journey. Love the trains, racing, airplanes, buildings, scenery, and all of the little things you tell us about as you work through this. The layout is amazing. Going to be sweet watching it grow. God bless.
