I am not sure where you have heard this? Certainly, not something we have heard about. The car is 15 years old now, definitely not have set on fire yet!

Can the light under the headlights be turned off?

It's called Daytime Running Light, so it stays on, can be switched off by using some special diagnostics computer, I think!
