Its sad to see such a prestigious brand name placed onto the headstock of a guitar that is made in a Chinese factory... Is this all just about the desperate need to have the gibson name or is it about the guitar, the heritage and the music... I wonder if Paul Kossoff would have played a, Chibson or if Slash has started collecting them for live performances?
@OddTimeMan2 ай бұрын
Lots of clear giveaways that it's fake. Real Gibson Les Paul Customs have ebony fretboards, not rosewood. Those gold pickup ring screws should be black. The bridge posts are the import style. The Grover tuners should have the tulip style keys, not kidney bean style. The headstock binding goes past the nut when it should end at the nut. The headstock angle is 14 degrees when it should be 17. The trussrod cover is silk-screened when it should be engraved. The serial number and "Made in USA" is engraved into the painted headstock when it should be stamped into the wood and then painted over. There are many more tells. By the way, the burst that goes around the edge is called Desertburst. The traditional burst is teardrop-shaped.

@@geargeeks8955 I mean, in the principle, I have nothing against Epiphone making exact copies of Gibson guitars, but some of them are getting close to the 2000$ mark, which is a totally absurd price. For to pay such a price for an Epiphone, it would have to be really really special, like I don't know ... stainless steel jumbo frets, graphite rods reinforced neck, a PLEK fret job, comfort neck to body joint, great fast neck with modern slim taper profile, great locking tuners, compensated graphtech nut, fine tuning stop tailpiece, great pickups and reliable electronics (Bourns 82 series potentiometers, etc) and all the "beauty appointments": great multiply bindings on the top & back of the body, the neck and the headstock + pearl or abalone fretboard inlays, etc... I mean, the whole shebang, like on some great fancy LTD 1000 Deluxe and some more. Otherwise, these import Epiphone "Gibson copies" should only be at a maximum around 1000$ mark and not more. Anyway, HAVE FUN & PLAY LOUD ! 👍👍

I just bought a Chinese Washburn Dimebag. Beautiful guitar but the Floyd is crap. My problem is the abalone block inlays aren't smooth with the fret board, they are raised. They are glued in but it's like they are too tall for the holes or maybe they didn't finish sanding the fret board after they were installed if that's even a thing.

I had this happen on a Les Paul with flame inlays but to fix it I had to pull all the frets, radius sand the fretboard from 800 up to 1600 grit then install and setup all new frets. Now it plays like a dream.

You mentioned the dime bag.. I purchased a real one for $550 with tax and shipping here in the us. I did a video on it you should see it it came out okay. It plays well... @@ryant3600 Because there is practically no use to buy a guitar with Gibson branding if it's not a Gibson. You realize that's not actually a Gibson just because it says Gibson on the headstock? The Chinese Epiphone shop closes at 5:00. An hour later re opens, in comes the night crew and Chibsons are born. The weekly payoff keeps the ball rolling. I don't know if that's the case ? Could be. Frank Zappa told the story of an old trick Warner Bros records did in the late 60's to make more money,press more records then ship them to national retailers without the artist every knowing. I own a couple of Chibsons, like the man said " don't pass them off for the real thing" Peace

Fender and Gibson would never do business with a company that made Chibsons and Chenders as a side hustle. There are 6 major factories in China (Samick, Cort and 4 others with funny names) and Ali guitars are not made at any of these Factories.

AS A PRO TECH, my advice is... first thing: Get a pro fret dressing and set-up. This includes all lower to med priced Epiphones as well. Next, change out the output Jack to a Switchcraft dbl-sprung jack or a clone of one. If you like the guitar after you do this, consider new pick ups and an L-shaped toggle switch, preferably Switchcraft or a clone. Virtually all Asian made guitars except for PRS and Schecter need fret work immediately. You'll know this because the high action it comes with hides poor fretwork (aka most guitars at GC). I get these guitars on my bench virtually every day at my shop. Yes there are always exceptions to this rule. This is not just some scare tactic to get you to spend money. If you're capable of doing a good job of all this yourself, go nuts. Just don't get used to it playing like crap and you making excuses for it.
