I've seen this dance in 1960s by the original Bayanihan dancers. Still looks the same, breath-taking performance!

The beginning of the dance was too slow. Actually the dance itself was too long.

I wonder why @7:04 its two counts short. Usually its four counts of each beat between switching from the five and seven count. But here there’s only two counts of the the seven before switching back to the five!

the original singkil should not have a male counterpart of that female lead dancer. The Princess escaped from the demons on her own.

The dance that preceded the "Singkil" is called "Asik". A dance performed solo by the female attendant of the princess to atone for her wrongdoings and please the datu.

A superb performance as expected of the primary Philippine dance troup Bayanihan. The royal dance is well choreographed, unclutered unlike some regional dance troups. It faithfully tells a story of the royal couple. Unlike other dance troups dancing Singkil, it is not crowded with too many dancers. It is tribute to the original leaders of the Bayanihan that has stringent standards to choose only the best dancers to perform for the company. I believe it was Ms. Helena Benitez and Ms Lucrecia Kasilag who were prime movers of this much acclaimed, world class dance company, the Bayanihan.

Thank you for uploading this. My mom was part of the 1980 tour, and I've been trying to find that one somewhere online. No luck finding a 1980 one yet, but I am still hopeful.

Please accept our muslim brothers and sisters in the South, they’re culture is unique and should be included, their identity as Muslims should be accepted also. Magaling sila Pero ang dancers nila kulang kulang Kaya Hindi sila makakuha ng support sa mga Filipino. 6 or 7 dancers lamb yata sila the whole time everytime nag to tour sila. Kawawa ginagawa nila nakakapagod sila lahat
