The large hard plastic lock on the Planet Waves lock strap acts on the strap button exactly like a claw hammer on a nail. It took less than two weeks for the strap to pull the button off my Ibanez, stripping out the hole. THESE LOCK STRAPS ARE DANGEROUS!

I do not like those Ernie Ball strap locks at all. Schallers used to be my favorite, and they still have advantages - namely security (especially if you use threadlocker on the nuts) and ease of strap removal. But at present, I prefer Dunlop Lok Straps, those cheap two-piece plastic washers that you twist to lock on. They're easy to use, secure enough (your existing strap buttons do the load-bearing work, while the locks just hold on the strap), and you can use the strap of your choice.

Just use schallers. They're the best anyway. Jeez

You need to check out the new Hercules guitar stand with the folding yoke. The guys in the praise band at church use them and i just picked one up and I love it. Holds all my guitars good from my Martin HD-28 to my Gibson LP. God Bless.

@keiiferrer If you are using the mic for vocals, I would recommend the AT-4047/SV. The multi patterned AT4050 and the AT4081 Ribbon Mic, which is bi-directional is best for musical instruments. They are great for picking up the ambiance of the room with several instruments being played. The AT-4047/SV's pattern excludes sounds coming in around the mic so the focus is on your vocals.

I'm looking to buy a really nice mic. I was interested in maybe getting the Audio-Technica AT4047 but after doing some reading, I noticed there is also the Audio-Technica AT4050 and AT4060. Have you used these mics before and if so is there any real noticeable difference in real world application? Someone also suggested to me the AKG C12vr but I don't think I can afford that one. Have you used this mic before? I also was thinking of maybe the electro voice re20 or re27

@poisonr There is only the AT 4047/SV and the AT4047MP Multi-pattern Condenser Microphone. We haven't tested the latter microphone. Here is description of the AT4047MP from Audio-Technica: This versatile side-address condenser offers selectable polar patterns, a warm vintage sound, low self-noise, a wide dynamic range and high SPL capability. Switchable 10 dB pad & 80 Hz high-pass filter. Audio-Technica makes a stereo condenser that plugs right into your laptop for voice-overs.

@jstyles3000 We haven't tested the new T.C. Helicon Singled Pedals. They are cheaper than the Create XT & Harmony G XT but do a lot less. The Create XT has tweeking capabilities so I think you can dial in the amount of Hardtune or Autotune that you want. I don't see that feature on the singled pedals.

@reesho Good to know. Still some people would rather risk cosmetic damage over drilling into their guitar. I've had the EB Strap Locks "FAIL" a few times too when it wasn't double clicked it. The beauty of the Planet Lock Straps is that you can buy a few of them to interchange quickly but I would definitely send the defective strap back to Planet Waves.

Thanks for the video, I was interested in getting the Audio Technica AT4047SV. Is there a difference in the AT4047 and AT4047 / SV or are they the same? I was trying to compare this to the Electro Voice RE27N/D Dynamic Cardioid Microphone. Any thoughts? I'd like to start doing voice overs or podcasting / internet radio.

@UncleJoey12 Yes, you are right. We have the Roland SA-300 but according to Roland whom we spoke with about a year ago, they are still being made. You can hear the Roland SA-300 in "My Recording Studio Setup..." video on this channel. It is one sweet system and everything we've put through them, (drum & bass machines, miked acoustic guitars, vocal mics, etc.), sounds incredible.

@ty2drew Well this is a Fender Strat and EB recommends drilling to install their strap locks.
@EclecticSoundTV
@EclecticSoundTV 13 жыл бұрын
@ty2drew Well this is a Fender strat in the video and we drilled it. You've got to get the anchor screws deep enough or the locks won't hold. If you try doing it by hand you might crack the wood. Drilling is what EB recommends for installing their locks.
@EclecticSoundTV
@EclecticSoundTV 13 жыл бұрын
@wayprotein You could try but you run the risk of cracking the wood. Drilling is what Ernie Ball recommends for installation so that is what we say also.

@spankystrat49 Hey Spanky. Thanks! We had the Ernie Ball strap locks installed by a pro guitar tech who said he drilled the guitar. You can chance it by not drilling but run the risk of splitting the wood as the anchor screw for the EB is often larger than the original strap button hardware. If the lock failed and we DIDN'T follow EB's instructions, that would be on us.

Love the concept. In response to a previous post the Ernie Ball strap locks do have some drilling instruction I have used them on Strats with no additional drilling and no failure Les Pauls are another story

@thethirdeyeproject Good point. Drilling deeper into your guitar as the strap locks require actually gives you a more stable anchor. Still we have tested the Ernie Ball Super Strap Locks on both acoustic & electric guitars and found if you didn't HEAR that double click, the lock failed. With Planet Lock you can visually check the lock as being secure.

@TheMadMusicMan Regarding Drilling into Your Guitar, Ernie Ball's Super Lock Button Assembly Directions Say: "DRILL a 7/64" (2.8mm) diameter hole, 1 1/2 (38mm) deep into guitar body where super locks are desired." So I doubt that Ernie Ball can be guilty of making false statements about how to install their own strap locks. I suggest you read the directions before trying to flame someone's video.
@TheMadMusicMan
@TheMadMusicMan 13 жыл бұрын
Strap locks do NOT require using a drill in your guitar body. I hate when people make false statements like that. It's like claiming you have to route the body to install a Floyd Rose, not true.

Yes, you need to drill a small hole in order to anchor the strap lock posts. Most guitars have strap buttons so you can just replace them with the strap lock hardware. You can take it to the guitar shop & have them install them which is what I did.
