Gorgeous project Mags. I wondered if using Tim Holtz new ‘Scorched Timber’ ink would have been any good on the white edges of the rusty frame? I was interested that you pour your vinegar onto the rusting powder as I put mine into mini spray bottles instead. Makes absolutely no difference I’m sure but you don’t have to pour excess back into a small bottle, which is just begging to go wrong with me 😂. Love your old pastry brush idea and will be getting one immediately.
@magswoodcock2 ай бұрын
Thank you, I'm glad you like it. The scorched timber idea is great, I'll have to try it. I did use a spray bottle once for the vinegar, but the metal bit inside the mechanism corroded with the vinegar and it stopped working. Possibly an all plastic one would be OK. Have fun x

Stunning ! Clear difference between glues. Question, do you experience any difference between using a metal trey or plastic?
@magswoodcock2 ай бұрын
Thank you. No, I don't really see any difference on this project. I tend to grab what's to hand. I have both plastic and metal trays. If I'm rust dying fabric or sheets of paper when both sides will be visible, I'll use the metal tray, as it helps with the underside rusting. I hope that makes sense.

Mags hi from Melbourne Australia. What do you use to cut your thicker cardboard for these books please? I cant find anything that will cut greater than 1mm. I have tried Zutter Kutter, Fiskars Procision bypass rotary cutter and a heavy duty guillotine cutter. I have been forced to use a Stanley knife and a steel ruler. But i want to cut a number of pieces. So i would be grateful for make and model of what you are using so you're having success?
@magswoodcock2 ай бұрын
Hi, my paper cutter is strong enough to cut it, but you could use a guillotine, or a very sharp knife and a steel ruler.
@magswoodcock2 ай бұрын
Hi, my cutter is an old one from The Stationsry Box in the UK
@PMercedesMorris2 ай бұрын
@@magswoodcock i have used both of those. The guillotine leaves a "fluted" edge at the start of each piece of cut cardboard. Thank you for replying
@magswoodcock2 ай бұрын
@PMercedesMorris it sounds like your best bet would be a very sharpe craft knife and a steel ruler perhaps. Good luck 👍

When gluing things like the thicker cardboard, does the glue stick hold it well enough❓❓. I’m wondering if it comes apart❓. I love all your art❣️❣️
@magswoodcock2 ай бұрын
Thank you. I find it does hold OK, if you prefere PVA or gel medium, both would work. I suppose I use a glue stick for quickness and ease of use. I only use UHU glue sticks, as I don't like Pritt Sticks. Avery are another good one, although very difficult to get in the UK .

One way to get more precise placement on the substrate is to put the gelli plate on an acrylic plate, making it into a giant stamp. It will stick well enough to do placement and flip the whole thing over to press as you like. It also offers a way to see how your layers are progressing when doing multilayer pulls.

Oh, I think I lost my comment but anyway it’s gorgeous! I particularly like the abstract look of the paper towels and I am sure that I would try to add some blue-green patina color here and there, perhaps infusions if they have that color but I can’t remember right now. All kinds of things to do with it! Thank you! Possibly balsamic vinegar would have the same brown color? But of course it’s quite pricey. Great work!😊😊😊
