both saxophones sound fantastic in their own way- the VI has been the standard for decades but the new Supreme is outstanding- at the end of the day it all depends on how you use these horns,ex: if you do commercial gigs like weddings, pop gigs, smooth jazz etc you want a horn that can be mechanically perfect so the Supreme wins, if you are more of a hard core jazz player maybe the VI is the answer, at the end of the day go with makes you feel comfortable the most, both horns are great, can`t go wrong with either.

Yes I have a SA II selmer sop I bought in 90,s . Same problem with the top notes. And I had had too another problem with the little hole near of the top of the instrument after playing 30 ´ the sop , the horn become golgged with the saliva .
@bobblues11589 күн бұрын
The top is always a problem on the Selmers. That is why I play Yanagisawa.

I took inspiration from you recently and bought a D'Addario Venn 2.5 clarinet reed for my soprano. It's a total game changer. Thanks.

What a wonderful recording of Lonely Woman from your jazz trio. I almost thought you used the Selmer, so I'm looking forward to your blog when you pit your favorite Yani against the Selmer. I'm also using Venn Reeds along with the Harry Hartman Carbon Onyx, depending on the situation, but only on my alto and tenor. I never thought of using the clarinet Venn reeds on my soprano, so thanks for letting me know it works. Just curious about playing the upper register (palm E - you were saying), do you think it's the instrument or reed or you? Regarding Apple, glad you added the sidebar. I got my first Apple computer last Christmas, a refurbished 2019 16" MacBook Pro Core i9 that I'm still wet behind the ears using. So thanks for sharing your experience about an older iPad Pro. My only iPad experience is using a regular 2021 iPad (9th Generation) on gigs with forScore and not much else musically.

My big pet peeve about cases is they should have a handle on both sides of the case so if you pick it up by both handles there is no way the case can open and spill the horn out if the latches or zipper are not latched or zipped. I had this happen to me in an SKB alto case once. It couldn't cost more than a few extra dollars to add a second handle. My case for my tenor now is a ProTech contoured XL case with space inside for the neck and mouthpiece and a very large pocket on the outside that you could fit a flute case in if you wanted to (probably quite heavy compared to your new case though)

Got my '57 from SaxQuest. Set up by TenorMadness. I had to import it. Ian Kirkham had a go on it and was so bowled over he went to the same place for his next Tenor. He told Chris DeMargaris to come and see my sax and called him over because it was an old sax but played just like a new one! Had to beat off the sax player from the Beach Boys to win it, 25 years ago nearly. Bloody expensive then. Yeah, got a few MK VI's and they're all a bit different. Took me 8 years to find my very first one in the UK, they were rare.

I've been with you for a couple of years. I actually have your syos signature mouthpiece which is really good for jazz. Since I am a blues and rock kind of player I use a rpc with a high baffle and medium chamber but I do use your signature piece on jazz or softer gigs. Hope you are doing well..sorry about your divorce..and other mysterious things that are possibly going on in your life..please take care of yourself and be blessed.

Thanks for the awesome video. I got my Supreme last week. I've always played Yanagisawa and thought those were the best saxophones I've ever played. But I went to my local store to get reeds, a Supreme was there and I tested. That was it! I had the sound and feeling on my mind for couple of weeks went back to the store and bought the Supreme.

It doesn't understand how words work melodically. It just seems to talk over the music. Which makes it on par with a lot of pop music.

Geez, the pitch correction on all of these, especially vocals, is God-awful. Dan, this hurts my ears. It's SO STERILE compared to, say, the amazing live Billy Joel 100th Madison Square Garden with Mark Rivera that I just listened to on the same studio monitors.

Great video, Dan. Thank you for sharing. I have signed up to Suno and sent two songs into a WhatsApp Group. For now, this is how I will be using it, taking the Michael out of good friends. 😊 I have spent the past year tinkering with Midjourney and I often wonder how it will impact the future of photography, in particular portraiture. Though the speed of evolution is frightening, my hope is that people will still cling on to the desire to have something that is really them. Back to Suno, once it starts faithfully replicating nuances in instrumentation and the complexity of human emotion, that will be the point where it will be very difficult to tell the difference. People will still want something real which has been created by a person or a group as opposed to a soulless prompt. Suno won’t stop artists from creating music and performing concerts, but it will probably get into the Top 40. Fully agree with you on the musicians that create library music. Unless their customers have particular principles & want human only created music, there is little they can do to compete.

Great information as always Dan. I use corks from wine bottles to block the ends after securing the pad. They work well after some minor trimming.
