As a music theory newbie, this video helped me get a basic understanding of what the Neo-Riemannian theory is. I'm sure if I understood theory more, I'd understand the extents of what this is capable of. Thanks!

Can you do a video about voice leading in the bass? You mentioned it’s power at 13:25 but I didn’t understand what you were trying to say😊

Hey yeah. The soprano and the bass are often the ones that can take larger leaps. The tenor and alto usually move in half or whole steps(anything smaller in motion). Using these will help ensure if less parallel motion, but you still likely have to double check of avoiding parallel motion if you care about that.

The solo record he released, i listened to it once, but it was waaaaay more sophisticated thn anything in metallica. So much that I had to wonder if he really wrote the songs.

I remember the first time I ever heard Randy Rhoads, I was about 14 and saw a documentary about Ozzy which featured the 'Tribute' version of Crazy Train. I decided there and then to learn to play guitar. I spent 25 years playing in bands as a result, so Randy has been a huge influence on my life and I can't imagine what it would have been like without him. Thank you Randy Rhoads, you will always be remembered!

I think the crazy train riff came from Halloween. Cause Halloween came out late 78 and everyone loved that piano and they sound very similar

@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle Nah, it sounds and is played way to similar. Like the intro to love song by Tesla obviously came from Dee, and Dee probably came from Bach, bourree in E minor. at least the technique.

The story that you told of Randy's audition isn't the one I heard. What I heard was that Randy showed up with his white Les Paul and a small amp. Ozzy was frustrated and intoxicated, not wanting to hear any more auditions after listening to many other guitarists. When Randy walked in with his equipment, Ozzy initially mistook him for a girl. So frustrated, Ozzy wanted to leave and decided he would see Randy the next day. The following day, still intoxicated, Ozzy listened to Randy play. He said that he didn't know if Randy was as good as he was (Randy blew Ozzy's mind but he was intoxicated), but he was interested in seeing more from him. Eventually, Randy got the job.

Dana Strum is very consistent in saying when he set up the audition Randy and Ozzy never met and Randy never saw him. When they met for the first time face to face later on, Ozzy thought he was a girl...asked if he were gay and Randy said no he was Church of England

Thanks so much. The most comprehensive video with some great guidance into the scales and classical pieces utilized by the late great Rhoades. I wish I'd learned at a much younger age to focus on scales in practice. A few weeks ago I'd seen that Randy used Hungarian Minor so I've been practicing this. Suffice to say that one isn't tapping into the metal unless they're relaying a sense of tension. For MANY of the fiercest riffs and grooves, that dissonance from the flatted fifth and flatted second is there. Randy cleared this path and without your video I wouldn't have thought of Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. Sharing this video! Keep up the good work!

I read some of these comments and I have to believe a lot of the people who made were not actually old enough or even born when these albums came out.First of all when EVH came there was nothing anything like what he did.All of this "he stole finger tapping from so and so etc. is irrelevant. He was as original as you could get in 76-77.He literally saved rock guitar.Music was moving towards dance music, disco and keyboard synth..More guitarist were inspired to play by him at the time then anyone. At that point there were tons of eddie clones doing bad imitations.None off them really made a mark.I remember when Blizzard of OZ came out it was the first time since the original Van Halen album that guitarists were truly blown away.I can remember at that point everyone was sick of cheap hair band imitations of Eddie.Maybe that's what caused Eddie to make some of these statements or maybe he was feeling threatened. Both Eddie and Randy's playing is unique.I read comments like this one better than that.Listen to Fair Warning and Blizzard of Oz.Two truly unique artists.P.S. Anyone who thinks EVH is boring has shyte in their ears.I wonder if Randy was still alive when Yngwie came on the scene what ignorant people would be saying. We're lucky to we had both.
