I just looked at the invoice. They didn’t give me a part number. Basically, you call them and tell them how much of a drop you’re looking for. I did 2 3/4” or 2.75” and then they will ask for your factory coil part number.

As you discovered those glow plugs go through the rocker box and are on the low side, where oil puddles and sits. Pulling the plugs is pulling them through that oil. There is a tool made for pulling that harness but usually replacing the harness is something you can count on doing , and pulling the fender liners and tires makes it much easier for both sides and is worth the extra effort. Low compression an a cylinder? A quick trick is a squirt of oil in that piston bore will wet the rings and tell you if it's rings sealing poorly as it would bring that compression number way up. You mentioned blow-by but I never saw it being shown. If you pull the oil cap while the engine is hot and at idle and it sprays and smokes like a train out the filler neck then you need rings. If this truck was in my hands it would be a set of piston rings, hit lightly with a hone to break the wall glaze and head gaskets, dummy plugs and stand pipes, an oil cooler and a Snap-To-Connect fitting update on High Pressure Oil Pump and ARP studs to replace the head bolts. These aren't super expensive for what you get when you are done, just labor and time intensive to get installed. Since it sat there's a good chance the turbo unison ring is also rusted stuck. Everything can be done in-cab by experienced people who have worked on these trucks before. Just because it's possible doesn't mean it should be done. Smart man would take the engine out and work on it without wrecking his body crawling around on the ground or a floor. Don't remove the camshaft or crank for any of this work unless there is evidence of bearing damage on the rods. The fact these engines can't run without oil pressure means you almost never have oil starvation problems that take out those major bearings. They are good for 350-600K miles. Doing things to add power to these trucks is not really needed. They need good fuel pressure and the above changes and a ECU Tune and you'll get 425HP out of them at the tires. Asking for more is a waste of your money. Bigger injectors or bigger turbo won't help because of how the camshaft is designed for emissions. Replacing the camshaft won't help because the breathing of the engine is limited by the exhaust valves. They are small and flow poorly. Dollar for dollar the biggest power adder is the Tune and everything else is dumping money for little gain. If you add more power with a tune then you will want to replace two solenoids in the automatic transmission to keep your clutches from being burnt before they fully lock. Hundreds of forum posts out there telling you what two solenoids and how to do it and why it's done. It's a learning experience and one you could spend 3000$ on the low side learning.

Sorry about that! The front is fairly easy too. The knuckles/spindles and steering will need to be separated from the main crossbar that mounts to the leaf springs. Unbolt the tie-rod ends on each side where they attach to the knuckles and the knuckles have a solid bolt that goes all the way through. You will need to unbolt those and keep up with how the washers and bushings were placed. Crossbar has 4 bolts with nuts on each leaf spring with a plate on top. Hope this helps!

Hold on pump the brakes. You need to check FUEL PRESSURE. You trying to start it, you could hear it didn’t have adequate fuel pressure. Lack of fuel pressure will cause cylinder contribution faults, smoke out of tail pipe, smoke out of CCV ETC… 100% need to check fuel pressure first before condemning the engine
@bmic_122
@bmic_122 5 ай бұрын
Good catch! That is something that has not been checked yet but is on my list. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s low, but I do have a FASS lift pump from my parts truck to go on it. On another note, Where you been at man? I haven’t seen anything recently
@LeftLaneDiesels
@LeftLaneDiesels 5 ай бұрын
@@bmic_122 I would also say that the exhaust was pretty loaded up from cranking on it so much which made the smoke look even more excessive. When you first started it sounded like the fuel system was air locked. Listen for the fuel pump to come on, and listen for it to “prime”, sometimes this takes 4-5 cycles of the key until you hear the pump turn off. Later when you got to attempt 10 you could hear you weren’t getting sync and the injectors weren’t firing due to the weak batteries and not cranking over fast enough. Some things to consider! Hunting season for the last 3 months haha I’ve got some content coming out in the next couple weeks. 💪

Just did dummy plugs and stand pipes on both sides on 6.0L F550 dump truck last year. 6.0L is a great engine overall, when it runs but unfortunately 6.0L has so many failure points when they age. Let my go. Not looking for another one anymore. To me just by listening, while you we cranking the engine over to prime new fuel injectors, it did not sound consistent. Sounded up and down at some point indicating low compression in one or few cylinders. I also will do cylinder contribution test and power balance test as well. Especially, on 6.0 always use OEM FoMoCo parts. Btw, great video! Keep good content up!

Do a relative compression test, this will tell you if it’s a cylinder sealing issue, I heard it in the cranking cadence early in the vid. if it’s a valve pull that head and have repaired. Also would have been nice to see the power balance. Icp was over 1000. If it ain’t lighting off ipr % will be at or near 85%. I saw coal out the pipe so it was getting fuel. Charge or replace those batteries and have fun.
