I lived in eau claire for 4 years from Jan 1983 until April 1987 when the oxbow hotel was the green tree and lived most of that time on n. dewey st. at 318 when it used to be that old big house on the hill which is now a nice apartment building. now alot in eau claire is better now than when I was there. one of the funny thing is the green tree has been said now to be run down and a dive which they are right. alot of memories from eau claire are bad but that was not eau claire`s fault it was my own

@LivingInEauClaireWisconsin I live here, the housing prices are not different, honestly it's more expensive to live in Altoona or Seymour and you can't even live in places like Cornell or Stanley which are almost an hour away because the housing prices are just as high there now too.

I’ve lived in Eau Claire all my life. It’s sprawling so much the past 10 years. I liked the small town feel it had when I was a kid much more than the urbanized feel it has now. I never had a reason to lock my car doors or my house doors until about 8 years ago. The drug and crime problem that is here now has grown exponentially year after year. It’s still decent compared to other bigger cities, but has outgrown me. I can see myself moving north after my kids are out of school in 5 years. Taxes are another thing that is increasing rapidly to pay for all of the downtown projects that I don’t personally care for or want.

I grew up in EC, moved there when I was very little in 1983, moved away after college in 2006. It is a great place to grow up, as well as attending college at UWEC. I lived on water street and it was the time of my life. My parents and two siblings are still there with their families, but the rest of us left for the Twin Cities. I’d love to stay if I could, but it was the jobs, MSP airport, nightlife/diverse activities, and already exiting friends and family network that existed in Minneapolis/St. Paul that led me away. But now that both my wife and I work remotely for 10 years now and raising young kids, we’re considering moving back to WI.

Let me start by saying that I was born and grew up in EC. and have owned personal and rental properties in the city. I moved away from Eau Claire in 1992 when the city council decided to invest in a bike path instead of an arena. I still own real estate, just not in Eau Claire. I would love to buy property and support my hometown with capital investments but it makes zero sense to invest in real estate in the city. I live out west now and have a rental property worth 450k in Las Vegas, NV that rents for $2300 a month. The real estate taxes on that property are $1500 a year and the property has increased in value $140,000 in the last several months. A similar property in EC would be taxed about $7000 year and although price have increased in EC they are falling behind hundreds of other cities across the US. An investor would pay $125 per month in real estate taxes in Las Vegas and many other cities compared to $583 per month in Eau Claire for the same value investment. That is a $458 dollar per month difference, over 10 years that totals over $54,000 just in extra tax. Not to mention all the extra taxes that Eau Claire residents pay like The Wheel Tax and State income tax to name just a couple. As stated before I would love to reinvest in my hometown but from an investment standpoint it is a terrible investment. Why would any investor invest X amount of dollars to get a return of low rents, high taxes and limited growth potential? As a community EC is awesome, great people, beautiful scenery and community pride. As a investment it's a no go.
@LivingInEauClaireWisconsin2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your feedback! I love investing into this city. Everyone has their own opinion and know many people who love investing g here.

Please stay the FUCK out of Eau Claire. We already have too many parasite landlords. Stick to where people are more desperate like NV. The multi-use bike paths within EC are amazing- the new arena that was built fucking sucks- would have sucked harder back then.
