Kynseed is a semi-cozy game with a lot of twist in their story, it's gameplay is pretty rewarding but not too tiring after the first run. The pixel art is beautiful but also goofy and funky looking, there's a cooking minigame and farming too but it's less punishing if you forget to water your crops.

All of the best cozy games have some sort of unique hook beyond just being a "cozy life sim game." Some are mashups with other genres (roguelike in particular works pretty well, as shown by Cult of the Lamb and even Stardew Valley to a much lesser extent). Some games have an unusual premise, like Spiritfarer where you're ferrying souls to the afterlife. Animal Crossing is extremely accessible to the point where it brought in a huge number of "non-gamers" and still continues to do so with most of its sequels. They all have some unique hook that sets them apart from the rest, and many of the developers and publishers cashing in on the "cozy games trend" seem to be forgetting to add that hook.

Mine is, like 50% Forestcore, 25% Tropicore, 25% Swampcore (which doesn't even exist).

Coral island is probably the third best cozy game of all tome behind stardew and animal crossing The only thing hplding it back theres some glitches and the dialogue osnt the best but not as bad as new horizons

Id say Vintage Story is sort of a semi-cozy game as you almost always have chores to do things to make or places to explore, with all the heavily expanded crafting building and farming systems at play, but there's danger and deeper challenges if you want, with exploring caves and underground ruins for higher tier resources and fighting off eldritch monsters

I was disappointed two times by cozy games. first was My time in Portia. It wasn´t even that bad at the beginning, liked the part that you basically improve the city by building lamps, bus stops etc. Had a very cute Dating mechanic as well. But hell was it unpolished and unfinished. Even today, when My Time in Sandrock was released, game is literally lacking sounds files at the end, whole Cutscenes lack. Second and even worse was Coral Island. Coral island started beautiful and looked so as well. There were several ways to improve your farm, decoration stuff, big cast of potential partners, cool ways to produce food. But the game developers dont get their shit together. Game is unpolished with scences having signs remarking that they didn´t finish them. The Water cleaning part is absolutely boring. it is a drag to go on. It´s like someone took Mining and thought:" You know what´s the best about mining? Literally destroying armies of rocks without any value!" The developers don´t really try to improve the gameplay at this point but rather throw more decoration stuff in the game. They wanted to put Coach Coop in this game, in 2023....

Don't they also have the thought bubble when they want to come over or ask you deliver a present?

Gameloft has an amazing ability to introduce fun game mechanics, and then slowly suck the fun out of them through optimization. I've been playing one of their FTP mobile titles for 8 years, and it's always: 1) Introduce fun new minigame that's a bit too generous with rewards 2) slowly tighten up the rewards 3) Create a 'cash-in' feature that let's you skip the mini-games and get your micro-level rewards. They're the worst.

An enjoyable watch but I disagree with your proposed solutions. The solutions to "I don't want to work in a game" shouldn't be "the game forces you to work".

About the furniture they give you "at work".... Can you have that furniture at your "at home" island ?
