the very last phrase is not G F# E but G# F# E, all played as sixth intervals with the melody note on top. That way it sounds more "chord"-y than just having that melody note alone. Apart from that, lovely breakdown of this, will definitely try to steal this for my playing!

Thanks for mining out the details mate…great teaching! Please offer more Tim Bukovac and Guthrie Trapp breakdowns. Everything they play is so essentially tasteful; guitar gold!
@RudyWarman3 күн бұрын
Solid breakdown champ! At 5.35 he plays a double stop sliding from the 8th fret on the D and B string down to the 7th and pulls of without plucking the strings again onto the last E chord. It took me a few goes to get but it sounds smooth and buttery compared to the single note run. Toms such a beast at incorporating double stops.

Is caged the same thing as playing modes but when use chords instead?
@RiffsRhythm4 күн бұрын
A way to think of CAGED is it organises the fretboard into different positions. You can play chords, scales, arpeggios all out of each Position. A video might be a better way to present this?
@billtharp33744 күн бұрын
We all learn from what Guthrie’s skill does almost intuitively. Guthrie sure is playing at a high level right now. Thank you for explaining this! I appreciate this better now.

Another thing that works well is a half-diminished arpeggio with the root being the major third of the dominant 7th chord. In this case, a G# half diminished chord over an E7.
@RiffsRhythm5 күн бұрын
Yes that’s correct. It gives you a E9 sound overall. I was going to mention it but thought it might be info overload. But great work for knowing that!

Can you explain harmonically what's going on with these turnarounds? Are they just chord tones from the next higher inversion of the E/E7 walking down/resolving to the 1 chord E?
@RiffsRhythm9 күн бұрын
Thats correct! It's the last 2 bars of the turnaround. E7 to B7 and this rundown happens on the E7 bar. Inversions running chromatically down to create tension to the release at the end of the I chord. Nice hey!
@timsmith1908 күн бұрын
@@RiffsRhythm I've begun thinking of this as working off the "D" caged shape making this b7 from the 5th string movable up/down the neck. It makes this work in any key with the root of the "D" caged shape being the 1 chord. The same concept works off the "A" caged shape with the b7 being on the 6th string one fret (half step) above the A shape.

Great player, sure. But I watched a video of TB's on his channel. In one video, he was so mean, angry and just plain nasty. I was astonished by how ugly he was about whatever it was he found disturbing (whatever he was so bent over was *that* important) that I down voted, unsubscribed and never watched another video of his. I'm *not* easily upset, but the guys angry was truly surprising. Sorry, it's not your fault Mr R&R, I just can't see the guy without being reminded.

Another great one. Loving this. You know, I'm a business developer and one of my illnesses is that my mind is always grinding on how to expand and grow a business. This is the second video I've seen of yours. And I Ireally like what I'm seeing. You have many qualities that supplements Tom Bucovacs. I'm pretty shure that you could team up work Tom, and you guys could establish a mutual benifitial partnership. Tom communicates and plays to a intermidiate +/ advanced segment. While your strengt is breaking it down, slowing it down, writing it down. And appear to more mortal than Tom does 😂 What I imagine, is that you simply do what you do in this video on the introduction music Tom plays in almost every video. *He can link to it in his video *he (or you)can upload the pdfs /tabs to his website * he can stick a teaser in his video, and call to action : click on link to get to your video for the full version. How could you add value to Tom's videos? Is the question. And the reward is he will market your channel,. Just my mind going off there... Anyway, thank you for your great content. Just send him an email and ask. The worst that could happen, is he says no.
