Agree the video was rubbish. The song was and still is so important. Mostly the poor and average Joe got "call up" in the US and here in Australia for the Vietman war. Not suppressing I guess.

The Allman Brothers Band is a band that can safely be called an under-appreciated one. Melissa is an incredible song. Their album Eat A Peach is iconic. Check out their song "Blue Sky." Will blow you away.

That's funny that she said this is her least favorite of what she's heard, among Zeppelin fans that's a pretty typical attitude. Among my circle it's rock and roll and hats off to Roy Harper, the two least amazing Zeppelin songs. To be clear they don't have a bad song, but if you're going to rank them this is pretty simply down near the bottom.

Camping with my best friend and bandmate" Toad" ... two teenagers and listening to Going To California portable stereo ... I remember drinking coffee by the morning campfire having coffee and saying like so many times before... " I"m gonna move to California" .... at 19 years old that is exactly what I did and still here today... a bit older but still 19 at heart.

I've been a rock drummer for over 30 + yrs - and a I have NEVER been able to accurately follow Bonham's beat in this song, particularly at the hook where he rides the bell cymbal and double beats the snare and tom-tom...I just can't DO IT...aargh! And that asynchronous time signature between the guitar and drums that falls back into rhythm is just pure genius. The girl seemed to pick up on that - she heard that the timing frames were off...but this was deliberate.

I think you guys accurately understood the message of the song. That was a good analysis. It came out during America's war in Vietnam and was an obvious protest song.

Great song, terrible video. Made by someone who likely imagines what working-class people are, rather than someone that actually comes from that class. That said, CCR was one of the best bands of that era. If you're interested in listening to further CCR tunes, there are several live videos taken from the "Live at the Royal Albert Hall" film that you may find more enjoyable. I really hate these classic songs that are being set against "modern" videos. Just give people the audio if there aren't promo videos that were originally shot for the songs back in the day.

I like the lady's impressions of how it stirred her in an emotional way, imagining an inner conversation and then saying the guitar is speaking to my soul. Exactly, that solo conveys so much emotion, it speaks, sings cries and screams. Beautiful.

Carol is correct. This particular video is the latest Fan made video and is not in sync with the song's message, it confuses many who watch it. I good rule of thumb is that most songs from the 60's and into the mid 70's did not have official videos. If the do it will say "official video", otherwise they are fan interpretation videos which happen a lot and confuse people with visuals that don't match.

They pull of the best live versions of their songs. I love your guy's set, colors, lights, and zles Pauls on the wall. Great reaction. Pivk Floyd definitely connects, almost on a soul level. The song is , to me, the human experience. Who of us doesn't long for the beaty , wond, and simplicity of child wonder surrounded by friends, lost is each moment until one day we grow up and get caught up in the rat race. I'm 64 now, and thought I live a great life, the eyes with which I see my world are different from the eyes of the child I once was. Melancholy is spot on. No one on their deathbed wishes they'd spent more time at the office or that they'd made more money. Why wait 'till our deathbed, when there's no time left, to mourn the changes we could have made, but chose not to? It reminds me of the question, how would you live your life if you knew you had only 6 months left to live life. Do that.

My advice if you want live performances of CCR and many others check out their appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show. Their "live", Ed wouldnt permit tapings. CCR/John Fogerty is my favorite group ever, I'm listening to music over 60 yrs. This song is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. More 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Up around the Bend, Traveling Band, I put a Spell on You, and more. They were inducted into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame and surely deserved it.

Yes, it was about the US Vietnam war, and the different parts of society and how war affects them. the video was completely distracting.... except..... as he said, ordinary people are compelled to go to war, while the rich men's sons are fortunate. Plus there are the unfortunate folks who are tricked into feeling patriotic. Sadly, those who are tricked into feeling "patriotic" are now shoved into war. All that war is for the benefit of the rich people and their fortunate sons, who don't have to go to war. I lived back then. The way the government manipulated us was very clear.

It is about the clash of class and wealth. The ones who could pay their way out the draft and others, like my father , who fought and were drafted with no choice but to fight for their country. Vietnam was a very controversial conflict that turned into a full scale war for Americans. I think most Americans feel we shoud have never been there at all.

Video generally distract from the music. There are a few exceptions..most notably Peter Gabriel's video for the song Sledgehammer....which was considered a technical and artistic achievement. It's usually best to either 1) Listen to the original audio recording (with lyrics, if possible) and then maybe checking out the live verion in order to see the band actually perform.

Here is the song with Vietnam footage. A better perspective but if you didn't live through those times, you need more context and knowledge of what was happening to truly grasp the importance of this song. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hJ2hnrSW3N_Zkqc.htmlsi=HK_vTeAMeNVQ7w7f
