Dankeschön! Eigentlich kam ich etwas zu spät. Ca. 5-10 Minuten vor meinem Eintreffen konnte ich es schon gegen 22.15 aus dem Auto kräftig rot glühen sehen.

Und ja, 3 Kameras, 3 Brennweiten. Wollte eigentlich noch ein paar vergrößerte Sequenzen einbauen, aber ich wollte auch, dass es fertig wird. 😄

@@laurakranich Ja, ich war auch erst ein wenig später los und weil ich am Samstag früh raus musste, bin ich "schon" um 2 Uhr wieder nach Hause. Aber habe trotzdem ein paar schöne Fotos machen können. War wirklich eine unvergessliche Nacht.

Dankeschön! So eine richtige Corona hatte ich an meiner Position leider nicht, da ich zwischen den beiden "Hauptbögen" war. Außerdem haben mir auch noch 2-3 Kameras gefehlt...😂

Hi, thanks for your question! A good one! It could be a bad sign because their formation is related to atmospheric methane levels. Because in short methane at high altitudes is reduced to carbon dioxide and water vapor at high altitudes providing a water source in the mesosphere, where normally water can hardly get to due to the stratosphere acting as a barrier. Steeply rising methane levels in recent years are a big concern because methane is a strong greenhouse gas and strong increases in short periods are thought to be related to so-called ice age termination events. Technically we are still in an ice age, as long as there are ice caps on Earth. When an ice age is terminated and all ice on earth melts, including large methane releasing permafrost soils the resulting global sea level rise will be about 70 meters compared to present-day sea levels.

Thanks! An aurora of this magnitude happens rarely but a little more frequently close to solar maximum, maybe about once or twice a year around solar max but not usually close to solar minimum. It also depends on the strength of the sun's activity, some solar cycles are less active than others. There have been even more extreme auroras during stronger solar cycles but the last one has been one of the weakest ones recorded and the ongoing solar cycle might just become slightly more active judging by how it has evolved so far.
