Sound projection would have been much more enhanced had this been recorded from the opposite side closer to pipe corps

As a classical violinist I'm always amazed how the pipe bands play such rhythmically intricate music without a conductor only the pipe major tapping his foot obscured much of the time to the pipers and drummers alike. I doff my hat to them all !!!

21st century pipe bands have been effeminized. Strathclyde Police 1960s-1990s was amazing stirring as was Dysart, Shotts Edinburgh Police. 21st century pipe bands arent worth listening to or watching. They do notinspire. Pipe bands have lost their strong male, military bearing character. There should be a male only bands category, female only category, and mixed category(to satisfy the PC Wokesters). Modern pipe bands are way too wimpy now. Deep down you know it's true.

Take your comments elsewhere. A medley this fantastic doesn’t deserve to be tarnished by your ill-informed opinions.

This is an incredibly stupid opinion, I think you will find that barely anyone will agree with you.

100% honest here, the tune selection is cracked out. I like Michael quite alot but it seems like he was hitting the pipe when writing this medley. Regardless, I hope the band does well at worlds.

this is the best band north america has ever seen. Too bad Shotts is still better and just playing jimmy's gift lol what a world.

Lovely to hear these old classics again. Hence the Balmorals ?

No. When the band was formed they wore these hats (and they're just hats). Bill Livingstone always thought they gave a "minstrel vibe" to the band and that suited. That said, there is nothing "minstrel" about the great soldiers and pipers and piper-soldiers who wear - and have worn - this style of hat.

Innovative and brilliant, unlike some of the guff some bands are trying.

Guff is a great word. And bands everywhere are playing great tunes in great style. Good to have lots of styles.

I honestly was not expecting to hear something remonicent to toronto police from he 78th, im obsessed with both of medley. My only gripe is that the north star was slightly messy compared to everything else. Apart from that first class medley

"Live in Ireland" was the first "real" pipe band album I obtained after I started learning the pipes. That was way before youtube and the plethora of easy access to recordings, so I listened to that album hundreds of times and it made quite the impression on me. This medley, along with the rest of the album is permanently seared into my mind in a good way. I'm sure I'm not alone. What a treat to hear a medley from that era brought back in its entirety.

"Mason's" is a fun tune, "Cascade" is an intense/compelling tune, but man if those tunes in between aren't melancholy-inducing. There's something kind of bittersweet or even heart-wrenching about them. It's hard to describe. "Sad" is not the right word but definitely evocative of a kind of reflective mood. Thank you for playing this medley! Great sound, too.

I couldn't believe that old medley had returned with an updated version. Happy 40th anniversary to the Mason's Apron Medley. I also loved how slow airs (Mist Covered Mountains and Behind The Hills) combind together since the Megantic Outlaw concert from Saint John, New Brunswick from 1992.

Hey Michael, absolutely fabulous. Glad I was able to see this the other day. This is Luke btw. Do you know where I could find sheet music for Paddy Donovan?
Two comments. 1. It's been a while since I have heard the band playing so well at this level. Of course, its always been very good but this performance raised the bar a click or two. 2. I am sure you know about Paddy Donovan but for those who don't, this tune was composed by the late great snare drum legend, Alex Duthart. Paddy was an Irish snare drummer who Alex admired very much. I enjoyed this medley!

Ein Grammophon hat eine Einstellbare Geschwindigkeit und sollte ideal bei 78rpm liegen. Die Schallplatte scheint etwas zu schnell eingestellt zu sein. Es klingt zu hoch und zu schnell.

Mike playing his awesome jig, "Tom Anderson," at 4:40. The first time I heard that tune was in 1990 at the end of a 78th Fraser Highlanders medley played at the 1990 Diamond Jubilee Pipe Band Championship. That medley was insane, and I remember thinking, "This jig is from the future." The whole medley had that feel, but this jig did in particular, and it was the perfect setup to their finale with "Eileen MacDonald."
