The cadenza leading up to the coda in the 3rd movement is just too fast and without the required narrative weight. The coda has little dance-like qualities and he rushes through it with impressive technique. He's generally on the (too) fast side in this rendition. Still a thrilling performance.

I've watched this recording many times over the years. Still, today, I marvel at how talented and serious these teens were. What a fantastic bunch - they were able to convey Maestro Dudamel's interpretation and captured Ravel's drama.

☝Seit dem Beginn des Russlandfeldzuges 1941 eröffneten die Frontberichte der Deutschen Wochenschau (und der Rundfunknachrichten) von der Ostfront regelmäßig mit dem Hauptthema von "Les Préludes", das deshalb auch "die Russlandfanfare" genannt wurde. Bekanntlich wurde, anders als vorgesehen, von diesem Thema nicht mehr für eine Siegesfanfare Gebrauch gemacht.
