Can you please tell me what length is too long? I have 2 elder cats aged 15 and 16 and my only concern for their nails is so it doesnt bother them. So sould it be trimmed or not? 😅
@vetnpetDIRECT10 күн бұрын
Hi, The main thing to take into consideration if they are comfortable. If they are curling around and close to the cats pads then absolutely they need to be trimmed. If they are getting caught on furniture, carpet or bedding they need to be trimmed. Overly long nails might affect your cats' ability to walk comfortably, especially if they have arthritis or other mobility issues common in senior cats. It's generally recommended to check their nails every few weeks and trim them if they're getting long. Just be cautious not to trim too close to the quick (the blood vessel inside the nail), as this can be painful and may cause bleeding. Overall, keeping their nails trimmed is a good way to ensure their comfort and well-being in their senior years. I hope this helps. :) Bec

Thanks so much for your video! I put it on the bottom back of my cats neck but some got on her fur instead of directly on the skin, she groomed herself afterwards and i freaked out a bit because I didn't notice if it was the treatment (Cassiel-Pet Avermectin) that got on the back of her fur wet or if it was her cleaning herself. It's been more than 30 minutes since I put the medication and she's just napping as per usual so I assume it's ok? I enjoyed watching your video, helped calm me down a bit. Thanks again!

I saw that on the package of the dog’s flea treatment, it warns against cats accidentally coming into contact with it, but I don’t see the same warning towards dogs on the flea treatment for my cats. Why is the dog treatment so much worse for cats than the cat treatment seems to be for dogs?
@vetnpetDIRECT21 күн бұрын
Hi, Good question! The main reason that dog flea treatments are not to be used on cats is that many flea treatments for dogs contain ingredients that are safe for dogs but toxic to cats. For example, some dog flea treatments contain permethrin, which is safe for dogs but highly toxic to cats. Cats lack a specific enzyme in their liver that is necessary to metabolise certain chemicals, including permethrin, leading to toxicity when applied to them. Also, dogs and cats differ in size and metabolism, which means they require different dosages of flea treatment chemicals, using the incorrect product can lead to an overdose. I hope this helps explains that for you. :) Bec
@georgettethorsnes962621 күн бұрын
@@vetnpetDIRECT so between dogs being larger (in general) and having more capable immune systems, essentially, they can take on more chemicals that are toxic to cats and cats immune systems are more fragile, so anything that is used on a cat would more likely be safe for a dog as well? (Maybe “immune system” isn’t quite the correct term, but close enough to the idea for me to understand) thank you!!

@vetnpetDIRECTАй бұрын
Hi there, Sounds like a very tricky and determined cat your have. If they are still able to get to the spot-on when placed between the shoulder blades or high on the neck, you could try using an elizabethan collar around the neck just while the medication dries for a few hours. You could also try other options like a flea collar in combination with worming tablets. I hope this helps.

@vetnpetDIRECT2 ай бұрын
Hi, Thank you for your question. There would likely only be a small amount of transfer from the neck to the foot and then they may even walk it off before licking it. If your cat does happen to scratch the area and it is still wet and then they immediately lick their foot you may see some of those mild symptoms listed by Dr Glenn in the video, but they should subside relatively quickly. The spot-on will dry within a few hours and shouldn't be a problem. I hope this helps :) Bec

My 5 year old Rottweiler has ticks , weight is approx 40kg , what will be the dosage of this tablet
@vetnpetDIRECT2 ай бұрын
Hi, You need to purchase the correct weight range pack for your dog. Simparica Trio has weight ranges of Large Dogs 20.1-40kg or Extra Large Dogs 40.1kg to 60kg, and they then receive one tablet monthly. Being that you are saying your dog is approximently 40kg I would get an exact weight on them to ensure you are getting a dose that will adequately cover your dog. You do not want to under-dose them as the efficacy of the tablet may be reduced and potentially put them at risk. You can shop the full range of Simparica Trio here online >> www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/collections/simparica-trio-monthly-chews-for-dogs I hope this helps.

Yes, for some cats they can take care of their own nails with their natural activities and scratching. Make sure they have something to scratch on like a scratching post and this will help. However many cats, especially as they get older or become less active they do need help to maintain their claw length. We hope this video helped answer some of your questions. :)

@vetnpetDIRECT4 ай бұрын
Hi, It has undergone stringent testing and follows very strict guidelines to be registered in Australia. All products do have some risk and you never know how any medication will react in certain dogs, however it has been tested and deemed safe with very little adverse reactions. If your vet has recommended it for your dog, they know their history, so I would say it is a good choice. If you do see any signs such as vomiting or tremors after administration please seek veterinary advice. I hope this helps :) Bec

I applied some to my cat as per the directions. And it’s been awhile since I’ve put some on her seeing as she’s an indoor cat and we don’t have any other pets. But I do plan on taking her outside on a harness with warmer weather around the corner. We were going to bed and she climbed up to her top cat shelf and was leaning over the railing of it looking at me and panting. I of course freaked out because the image of it was quite terrifying after just seeing tik toks where ‘it’s a skinwalker not my pet’😂 but should I be concerned with how she was panting and slightly trembling? I immediately gave her one of her treats after seeing it leaves a bad taste in their mouths, and I even bathed her using 3 rounds of soap to really make sure I could get as much of it off as possible. She seems to be ok now, but she definitely is acting way more cuddly than usual and is still breathing a little fast
@vetnpetDIRECT4 ай бұрын
Hi Sarah, Thank you for your question. If the panting and trembles stopped that is good. Did she lick the spot on do you think or was this a reaction to the medication itself? If it was a reaction I would consider speaking to your vet about the side effects before using again. If it was because of licking it I would make sure that you put it up higher on the neck so she can not reach it. Please keep in mind if you have washed it off before it has been absorbed your cat may not be protected as expected. I hope this helps :) Bec
