I definitely think there can be overexposure for us, the audience. But, if I’m an actor and my star is shining, I have to imagine that I would strike while the iron is hot and take as many jobs as I could within reason and while being discerning with my projects. I’m sure they are many actors from the 90s and 00s who had a hit or two, but have all but vanished as headliners. You never know when your time will be up.

You know, this is why representation, but also a different perspective through diversity is useful and necessary. Jeannine touched on this, but I hadn't thought of representation as a celebrity couple angle and shipping things as a way to get exposure and visibility. It also let's people know the variety of beauty standards that can exist, too, or maybe that beauty standards need not be so narrowly defined.

I'm convinced Morgan is Benjamin Buttons. He's old now, but as he physically gets older, he'll get mentally younger. By the time he's 84, he'll be using phrases like "no cap". 😝🤣❤

It's so wild what people will get mad at. Now, I am a part of some nerdy, sci-fi circles so I get it. And I've got certain sections in those franchises that I clearly don't care for, either. And not exclude myself, but the things I get upset are about lore or details of a series and I get that things like gender swapping or whatever may affect that, but I think what's surprising is the level of vitriol as well as the specifics of what people are getting bent out of shape over and, again, I get that some of these are still open to personal preferences, but... What I /don't/ get upset about? Black female leads. Or lgbtq+ leads or prominent characters. Satire that skewers modern socio-political themes. And, like Jeannine mentioned, if you're upset that shows like The Boys are exposing your (maybe not so) hidden biases and bigotry, maybe take stock of your behavior and attitudes and perspectives instead of getting upset that you're being "exposed". Also, I hate to say this and it probably doesn't help that it's not a more conciliatory tone, but these people have never been the sharpest tool in the tool box. These are the same people who, for years and years, thought that Stephen Colbert was a genuine conservative pundit while on The Daily Show and even invited him to the WH Correspondence Dinner for Bush.

Been excited for this, although bittersweet, knowing that it would last until the next chapter! Loved what we got with Polin. There were things I would've loved to see but doesn't take away from what we were given. Nicola and Luke were fantastic as this season's leads and can't wait to see what the next chapter in Polin's story looks like with them being married and parents. I think the thing that left me questioning anything was the Michaela/Fran/John situation at the end. I haven't read the books, but my basic understanding is that Fran was in love with John, had a happy marriage, and then later fell in love with Michael well after John's passing. I love this story idea of finding love again and believed we'd see this foreshadowed through Violet in season 3. Then, seeing the disappointment on Fran's face after their first kiss and her reaction to meeting Michaela made me pause and wonder, "Are we going to see one love portrayed as stronger than the other rather than each love being equally important for different reasons?" That would make me sad because John is perfect, and Michaela is stunning. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, especially when this story is years down the road and it could turn out that I have absolutely nothing to worry about.

In Copolla's case, he's, both, earned it as a legendary director (though he hasn't had anything that reaches his peak recently) and he was spending his own money. It' a different issue when you're having to secure finances from somewhere else. You may have a lot of sway and say, but it shouldn't be a complete carte blanche.

Btw, Morgan, recently I found a channel called Gent Z which is about a fellow Brit (living in Chicago, I think) and it's very much about a classical '"gentleman's" guide to fashion and etiquette and he very much reminds me of you. Even in appearance, the two of you could be relatives. I don't know how interesting it would be for you, but do check it out at least once. 😄

It's weird, I haven't been the biggest fan of Costner's westerns? I know he's had some good ones, but I think it has more to do the fact that I am not a Western fan by default even though I do like some of them. I guess the easy answer is Dances with Wolves? But, Perfect World if people are willing to concede that it has a western-style storytelling?

Thank you so much for your commentary. I loved hearing the two different perspectives. One from a book reader and one series only viewer. A lot of people have been complaining that Collen didnt suffer enough or shown any jealousy until after the kiss. There was a scene when the Lord that loved gossip, where Penelope enjoyed taking to him. You can see Collin looking over unhappy and when he asked about him he looked very displeased at how complementary Penelope is about him. So its there, but its subtle. And people are going to rewatch, and others will show and disect these looks and mirco expression on tik tok- so there will be more hype in the coming weeks. Plus the pitball song is stuck in my head. And if you watch the song music video on KZfaq - all the top comments are of people who have watching because of Bridgerton 🤣

What Jeannine said about changing race/genders of a character is spot on. You even heard this about something like Turning Red which had an original protagonist, but with the criticism levied at the film and the main character being that people couldn't identify with a teenaged, Asian girl in the early 2000s. Even as the themes of the film included friendship, the hardships of a teenager's school life, as you are experiencing changes in your body, familial expectations and pressures, pressures from friends... The fact that these people said they couldn't identify with the protagonist, to me, told me more about them. And that's the case with changing race, too. Aside from everything Jeannine mentioned, it's also about an opportunity to see the differences *and* commonalities with that character. You may see some things through their eyes b/c you share those perspectives and experiences and the differences open up a window into a viewpoint that may not have dawned on you before. When you race/gender swap, it's, both, an opportunity to see what a different person experiences, but also the things you might share in common.

First off, I want to say that I love your podcast, and I think that you guys do some great work! Now, getting to my point, I personally don't like race-swapping characters in films, because I think that it takes away from the authenticity of the character, and is lazy, just coming across as pandering from big studios to people of color, for them to say that, "see, we made this character Black, and this character Asian, and this character Latino so that we show that we want representation, and we are so great because we did that for you." It is just a way to make money and meet quotas so that they can please the mob. An example where I don't like race-swapping in movies is the live-action Snow White film. Snow White is a story that is supposed to take place in Germany in the 1500s, which was obviously a time when most, if not all of the country was Caucasian. It makes no sense to me why Disney decided to pick an actress, Rachel Zegler, who is of Columbian descent to play a character named Snow White, who was as white as snow in her pigmentation. Yes, it's a fictional character, however; in this case, it breaks all historical common sense and logic to have a person who isn't white play a white, German character. It's like if I took the character of John Henry, the famous African American man of folklore, who was a former slave, who worked on the railroads as a steelman driving spikes into the railroad beams to help build the Transcontinental Railroad, and made a movie about his legacy/legend, and had a Native American play the role, or an Asian male play the role. It would be ridiculous, and wouldn't be accurate to his story/portrayal. Now, I don't have a problem with characters played by people of different ethnicities, if it makes logical sense, or if the character was never written to have a specific racial/ethnic background. For example, having an almost all-Black cast for the movie Black Panther makes sense, since the story takes place in Africa, in a fictional country. I wouldn't want to see a Caucasian, Asian, or Latino male play the character of the Black Panther, because that wasn't how the character was written, or what the comics portrayed the character to look like. Spiderman is a good example of how race-swapping isn't a problem, because there have been various incarnations of the character, and has been portrayed by people of various ethnic backgrounds. Spiderman will always be Peter Parker to me because that's the original character, and that's who I grew up with. However, I'm not someone who is gonna get up in arms about someone making a movie about Miles Morales as Spiderman, because he's a completely different version of the character, with a different ethnic background. I think it's cool that there are little boys and girls out there as well as grown adults who can relate to the character because they share the same cultural background. Overall, my point is this. If a fictional character or historical figure has already been well-established, and we have already seen what they look like/what their cultural background is, just leave it be as what it was originally intended for. Or, in the case of a character like Spiderman, who has been portrayed and written through the lens of various ethnicities, then by all means, go ahead and make those movies with those characters, since they can have a degree of racial freedom. It's really a case-by-case basis at the end of the day.

Not a perspective I agree with but I totally understand. Bc there are cases of demographics and pandering being behind the decision from studios. But I don’t believe we should go into these things assuming that’s the case every time. Bc we have seen how there is sometimes a huge divide between the creative’s ideas on something and the studios. With the Disney castings to me it doesn’t make sense to place this strict historical aspect on it when Disney itself chooses not to make that clear or vital to THEIR version of some of these stories. When it comes to Snow White, I get what you’re saying. But appearance wise Rachel Ziegler is the same skin tone as many of her white contemporaries. And she’s an incredibly talented actress and singer and embodies everything else about the character so I get the casting, But It probably would’ve made more sense to cast someone with pale white skin 💯. I think a better example is a character like Magneto. I had commented on being excited for the fan cast of Gian Carlo Esposito as Professor X. Someone replied that they liked him for Magneto, but my response was You wouldn’t cast a clearly ethinic person to play someone who is based on real ppl who went through a real thing who look nothing like that. I saw someone suggest Caleb McClaughlin from stranger things for Miles Morales. And my first thought was he’s great but why not cast a talented Afro-Latin actor to play this Afro-Latin character and give that representation to a sorely under represented group In the end some characters origins and look inform their portrayal, and others are purely products of their vibe and personality and in those cases, if their is someone of any race who can capture that well, I don’t see why they can’t play that role and do something to help show the world as a truly diverse place. Thank you for watching and the kind words. Appreciate you giving your opinion 😊

As long as the story matches the character attributes I don’t mind the race or gender swaps when an artist feels like it’s necessary from their POV I just don’t want studios to feel like they need to pander to certain audiences instead of telling an authentic story
