Shenmue 3 is the worst game i ever played. I love 1 and 2 but let’s keep it real.

I get that people are steamed over the fact that yu suzuki didn’t wrap up shenmue’s story after an 18 year gap between the second and third game, and instead made shenmue III one very long, real-time training montage. but for me, I cannot stress enough how much bloody respect I have for him being that bold lmao

Amazing great work I think shenmue 3 get so much hate but it’s literally it’s like a reintroduction to the series and personally I think we will get shenmue 4 and now they are using unreal engine they have everything built so making a shenmue 4 will just be building areas and different characters and maybe more martial arts move

The beautiful thing about shenmue is how it shows the slow pace of life and simulates the travel experience. Nobody goes around on a holiday to a country beating up and shooting everyone they see, I guess people don't want the slow pace, they want the Jonny somali nuisance experience.

9:50 Oh my god thank you. I've been saying this for years now. My least favorite thing to hear from people are statements like "this hasn't aged well". Fact is, games don't age at all. There is just good design and bad design; and if the game you're playing is built well around the mechanics and controls, then I don't see the issue with them not conforming to whatever its contemporaries are doing. Don't get me wrong, I think Shenmue 3 has some problems, but I think it's very telling how when I booted the game up for the first time I felt like I was playing a Shenmue game that was a direct sequel to Shenmue 2.

The comparison between FFXV feeling like a real world and GTA feeling like a toy world is a really interesting one! I think what it comes down to is that, while many players complain when there's empty space in open world games, every square foot of the real world isn't filled with curated content personally directed towards each individual person. A setting crammed full of curated content is a sandbox, not a world. The train ride in the Niflheim continent is a great example -- the developers created an enormous amount of territory that you only ever see from the window of a train. But is that all too different to what you would see if you took a train across Europe?

As much as I loved Shenmue over the years, I do really wish they would have moved the story forward much more with Shenmue III. I fear it will end up like Half Life and A Song of Ice and Fire and will literally never be finished.

You've got to be taking the piss? You're not serious are you? 1 and 2 maybe, but 3? Fuckinghell. Its terrible lol. And the battle system got worse than the original? You can no longer throw or dodge (with a proper animation) or parry. There is no way you could finish the 80 man battle in Shenmue 3 because you can't parry or counter to take no damage. Its inferior. Shenmue was one of my favorite game series cus it felt like a martial arts movie. Shenmue 3s story is shit, theres no sense of danger, conflict, deception. The story is boring, nothing really happens except they force you to get your arse kicked until you learn a specific move. Thats shit story. We should be learning how to dodge, block, parry like a master, thats non existent in this game. The voice acting is terribly monotone but I can forgive that, the other two were similar and its part of its charm. But being worse than the original 2 is not good, its supposed to get better and more involved as it goes along to make it believable when we finally beat Lan di. This battle system can not do that. The other games learned martial arts moves too but it wasnt this boring, shit hapened. A story can't be this boring, it won't hold peoples attention. I'm glad it kept its feeling but it lost too much to be good. The next game needs to be a real evolution. The fights should feel like Doa if anything, at least that has counters and all aspects of martial arts. Shenmue needs to become the one game we get to fight like a proper martial artist because as you said that was his vision. From the start. Hes delusional if he thinks that fight with lan di at the end where he just blocked everything is going to cut it, its not. It should feel like a martial arts movie with him beating us with skill. Not a cheap setting where hes set to block everything. Thats a cop out. Aim higher, expect more. This was not good enough and I'm an original dreamcast fan. You can't say you are telling a story of a martial artist improving to the point where he can avenge his fathers killer and then have him LOSE abilities that were integral to the previous story and integral to being a proper martial artist. The only thing that was better in this game is the training side of things, thats it.
