I have this piano. Living in Vancouver... I don't need it anymore. I think it needs a tune. How much should I sell it for? My father told me to take it to the trash can, but I can't because it's a piano with moving keys. It says sep 271893.

Advertise it it for $500 on FBM and Kijiji and Craigslist for two months. Then advertise it there for two months for free. Then you might want to google piano museum and donate it. Also, contact all the piano rebuilders in the area. They might want it. Don't forget all the family members, cousins, 2nd cousins etc., if this belonged to your grandparents.

This channel seems promising. I purchased an old used junker a couple years ago that likes to be re-tuned every few days so I safely fit into the "tunes piano as a hobby" group. It's a bit of a double edged sword, I would rather play my piano than tune it, but I guess I get to enjoy practical experience tuning one also.. What troubles me is I scoured YT in the weeks after buying it trying to learn the arcane mysteries of piano tuning and not one time did your channel ever get returned in the search results. Thanks YT algo! Better late than never I suppose.
@howtotunepianosbymarkceris29226 ай бұрын
Hey! Figuring out YT is more a mystery than piano tuning 😂 Now that I have upwards of 50,000 views on some of my videos, maybe that will change. Having to tune your piano every few days means you have poor stability. If you would like to know how to tune your piano so it stays in tune longer than a few days, email me at [email protected] Looking forward to hearing from you!
The improvement was shocking to me when I watched the video. Despite what this sounds like, I did not change anything, no new mic, nothing except the platform.

I tend to agree. But if you’re tuning a really good piano and can tune or properly work the tuning hammer I believe the EDT works great. Also you can make adjustments on the algorithm in the EDT to refine the program. Also you listen to the tuning as you tune and make adjustments.
@howtotunepianosbymarkceris2922 Жыл бұрын
It’s true. But what you are saying is that the ETD needs to be tweaked, and that can only be done by ear, which is exactly what I’m saying. The problem is that some people think ETDs do a better job than the human ear because, well just because. They are computers. We have to fight these misguided opinions.
This sequence is flawed. For a better sequence, research the Go A.P.E. system.

Test for pure P4 at 8:6 m6 = m3 If equal, we can make m6 = M17 (pure triple octave!) AND m3 = M17 (pure double octave plus fifth!) Not only that, when played together, the m3 and m6 make a minor chord that hums at the 8:6. You can hear the even beating of three notes playing.
@howtotunepianosbymarkceris2922 Жыл бұрын
Two benefits of the Go APE temperament sequence: 1) Three different sequences. Each one specifically designed to give the highest accuracy for the specific piano you are tuning. This is the medium sequence. 2) Opportunities to check the temperament before you are done and fix notes (checking them only one way - the way they were originally tuned. No more multiple checks needed.) before they are used to tune other notes. This is a progressive series of intervals based on chromatic M3’s. Where the M3 hasn’t been tuned, we use “surrogate M3’s”. That is, m3 or M6 that beats the same speed as the missing M3.

I appreciate your video Mark. I only tune by ear and have only every seen great results. Many clients tell me, 'after the other tuners were done (with ETD's), they couldn't tell if it was tuned or not. But now they could hear a big difference with the Aural tuning, and it sounded better than they've ever heard it.'
@markcerisano4268 Жыл бұрын
Aural is not better than ETD. Trained aural is better than “ETD only” every time.
very good, thanks. how can i tune my piano based on harmonics not just each note separately by tuner?

If this is something you want to learn you have to know you can't just read about it or watch videos. If you do that, the best you can hope for is a bad tuning that you do not know is bad. Any way will be a bad tuning. So, do you care if it is a bad tuning or are you happy just to improve the sound of your piano but still have it sound bad? Once you answer me I will be better able to guide you.

Hi master, I know your extensive experience, sorry but nothing is "perfect" and the 5 or other sounds, mathematically are not possible. The material of the strings or parts of the piano are not perfect, so please let me know where is the perfection especially in the sound that is constantly in motion. You and many professionals in this beautiful carrier all the time use "Perfect" is possible to think that The "Perfect Tuning" is true but piano tuning could be "excellent", "super" but "Perfect" please.

@markcerisano42682 жыл бұрын
@@franklinvargas5198 "Perfect" refers to the type of interval. It has nothing to do with the interval actually being perfect. For intervals tuned with no beats, we call them "pure". And yes, you are correct. Pitches fluctuate, beat rates change speed, nothing is perfect. But as tuners, our job is to give the impression of perfection which is attained when, as you say, we are able to produce tunings that are excellent or super. (Oh, and you do not need to call me master. I'm hardly one.)

@@franklinvargas5198 Oh and thirds are never perfect, they are major or minor. And I never said anything about a perfect tuning. This video is not even about tuning at all. It's just about the science of temperament.
