i know people who would definitely do anything to have this much land at their disposal for agricultural purposes. i would work this land for free if i was allowed to live and grow on it. provide a part of what i would produce in exchange

Carpet is a great tool. Any concerns with forever chemicals in nonstick carpets?. Good tip with the edge lifting.

I have horses and used some of our spent hay to mulch my veggie beds and they all died for the first time ever. I was mystified and then realized it was herbicide damage. Bc of drought, hay is hard to come by and I think it would be impossible to find organic producer of horse hay. Regular hay is selling 15$ a bale at times. So you will always find some herbicide in horse manure and definitely in any hay grown for feed. Don’t forget to ask horse owner if they gives their horse medication bc a lot pass through in to manure.

I tried market gardening here in East Tennessee. I literally worked myself sick! I planted over three hundred strawberry plants in permanent raised beds. The deer ate them all. I replanted the beds the next year. The deer ate the plants again. Working alone sucks!

Am curious. I know this video is super old. However. I have a hay barn, a medium size room in there has a large amount of "old", "older" horse manure. I basically have to break it up to remove it and bring it out. My question is this. Can I use that? If so, how would I get it started? Do I need to add water? Do I need to add any other components to help it fire off?

I compost with horse manure + leaves for carbon using a vertical wire frame holding around 9 cut ft. Temperatures over 131 for three or four days is basic as it will kill off seeds etc but getting to high over 170 can be a negative. Commercial compost companies usually do 131 for 15 days I have heard. There is also a difference between bedding and pure manure as bedding usually has wood or hay added which impacts the carbon level. Usually I mix both together if I have them but with just pure manure I always add leaf wood products have a 500 to 1 carbon print vs leaves 80 to one or hay, so understand your carbon count . After it cools I put in piles and cover for 6 months to a year and add compost worms but I don't overdo the worms but a herd of worms working the cold piles is helpful and many find they're way into the beds as you distribute the compost.

How about burning the Bermuda Grass with a propane torch? Those damn rhizomes are like an alien life form, whenever I pull them up I always throw them in the trash, otherwise they will come back as they are quite resilient.

This almost seems like it works TOO well....is it possible the carpet is leaching some kind of chemical that's killing the grasses? You said you move the carpet to create new beds, but is there any issue with the soil health for those new beds?
@solarroofing80722 жыл бұрын
no carpet doesn't leach chemicals to the best of my knowledge. bill board tarps and TPO roofing membrane work pretty well too. only issue with carpet is it turns into a wet muddy mess that is pretty nasty to dispose of after several years.
@erowan13892 жыл бұрын
Yea, carpet breaks down. Most are made of plastic which is made from petroleum (oil).the fibers break down and the backing flakes off. Microplastic will be throughout the soil amd go airborne and get into water if next to carpet. So.e rugs are made of wool or jute which are natural. Look for natural fiber carpet. Layers of carboard covered in mulch are nore natural and breakdown. As the deteeiorate, add a new smothering layer. It becones soil.
