So long as the rider is mature enough (not necessarily "old") I'd say the Suzuki SV650 is a great bike for any new rider, or someone coming back to motorcycles after a long break. Not sure I'd recommend it to most 18 year olds, but some for sure. Comfortable, powerful enough to not get run over on the freeway, good torque from the V-Twin, and pretty darn good handling! Current riders looking for their next bike probably already have a good idea of what they want.

I'm in my 60s now and the only restriction I can see coming for me is weight. I've a 750 lb. motorcycle that I've had for over 12 years now and it's simply becoming too heavy for me to just push around, and I've come very close to dropping it when doing so as of late. I hate the thought of selling it but it may become necessary in the coming years.

As a motorcycle enthusiast for decades i refuse to purchase any motorcycle with a neutral assist. This is to help you find neutral but you can not move gears up until in motion. A pain in the arse for people that work on motorcycles. Kawasaki and the Polaris Victory have them. Helps useless people find neutral.
