You did the tail wrong. You are supposed to put the cap in the tail, and the translucent plastic piece in the Boglin itself.

Very cool. Are you thinning your Contact Cement to get it in the sqeeze bottle?
@AlexAndOlmstedАй бұрын
Thanks! I didn't thin in here. If it sits too long (in the bottle or an opened can) it'll thicken up, but you can thin it again by mixing in acetone.

3:02 the thing you are holding in your hand that you are using to move the parts of the puppet--what is that made out of? Did you make it yourself?
@AlexAndOlmstedАй бұрын
That's just a short length of galvanized wire that we straightened and then bent the end 90 degrees. It's really great for rotating a piece, instead of just moving it up/down or left/right.
@MochaHEllamcKaineАй бұрын
@@AlexAndOlmsted Thanks! I don't have galvanized wire on me, but I do have some floral wire--have you had success using floral wire for control rods? I saw in a different video you use them for coiled joints which I might try out, too.
@AlexAndOlmstedАй бұрын
@@MochaHEllamcKaine I wouldn't try floral wire for control rods unless the puppet were very small and lightweight. You might have luck if you have some thicker gauge floral wire and twist several strands together, but I'd really recommend just getting a roll of galvanized wire from the hardware store. It's inexpensive and will last you years, likely.

Thank you for this video. Well paced instruction. I initially got defeatest when the Photoshop and Illustrator tools were brought in (immediate thought: "That is too technical!!! Why can't I just draw/design in Cricut itself??"), but your approachable, encouraging-teacher-tone helped me get past that worry to continue on with the lesson. So glad I finished your video!!--And, kudos to you for intuiting that a meditative-exacto-knife-cutter (like me) would be watching. You're generous sharing of craft is laudable.

Dope. So was this for demonstration only, or are you planning on using this as a real puppet? Wondering how you would put fabric on something like this, or color it.
@AlexAndOlmsted7 ай бұрын
Thanks! This was just for demoing the patterning process. If I were to cover it in fabric I'd probably use a draping technique and work in sections. If I were going to paint it I'd use acrylics and spray the surface of the foam with a little water to help the colors flow. Also, if I knew I was going to paint the foam from the start I would mark the insides of the pattern pieces so the marks wouldn't show.

I started out designing a really cool folding cup holder for my van using this process. I then machined out the parts on my Bridgeport mill, it was amazing to see how much just .020 difference in pivot points would would make the difference between work perfect or jamb! Again great video!
@AlexAndOlmsted8 ай бұрын
That's awesome! Do you have any video of the cup holder in action? Yeah, those tiny little changes in pivot points change so much! Especially the closer to pivoting points get to each other. It's also amazing how much changes when you switch from a paper or wood prototype to metal, and all of a sudden the tolerances are much tighter!
