I loved Sweet Fern since I was a kid where they grew behind our property on a dirt road. Today I am blessed to have them naturally occurring on my wooded property. Love the scented leaves. A jewel of the pines. That said I would warn people not to try to dig them up. They will die. I tried moving a few that had come up in inconvenient spots and they did not make it. Never dig from the wild.

What do recommend for a hedge that the deer won’t eat?! I love the look of the sky pencil and the darker green but I have to fence on so many of my trees- I’m hoping to grow hedges that won’t require fencing!

People who have seen my pictures of my seedlings have said to get that cane out. Some are about 6 inches and others have bifurcated, but my young ones are nice and green, but some bent and just lent over. What should I do. I have really big canes and really thin like chop sticks size. Should i just leave the all alone until their bigger? I really need advice

This species “Chicago Lustre” seems to bloom later than other viburnum dentatum, Blue Muffin and Autumn Jazz, and so I’m having trouble with cross pollination for producing berries. I’ve been looking for the Northern Burgundy variety which was cultivated by the same nursery as Chicago Lustre, from what I read it blooms at the same time.

About how long will it take to get 10 ft. wide? The website I bought mine from said it will only get 2.5 fy. wide so I planned on planting it 10ft from center of a evergreen Picea Pungens Monty from Iseli's. Now, I'm thinking that will be too close and I may not be able to plant it where I had planned originally. UGH!

I've never heard of the white versions of the redbud trees. The Vanilla Twist redbud tree interests me because of its small size. Do they grow (or are they available) with multi-stems? Also, is it possible to train or prune the stems to keep it like a shorter size? Does anyone know if the flowers emit a fragrance? 💚

Thanks for the updated height info! What's the ultimate spread? Or it doesn't matter since you can cut it back so well?

Hello, I recently purchased a wine and spirits Weigela. I think they are one of the prettier Weigelas. Their big white flowers up against their dark foliage really make this one stand out! It's a nice change and I love it!

I was wondering if you noticed that pruning this variety at all in autumn will prevent it from flowering the next year. This is the second time it happened to me. Every other year that I've had it it had lots of blooms.

I have two of these-one in the front with a magenta-purple Catawba crape myrtle, and in the back, next to a white Nachez. The colors are spectacular! If you have ever visited Washinton DC, you will see all the crape myrtles in blazing colors all over the city!

This is a very useful shrub. I agree, after Wine and Roses TM 'Alexandra' came out it just doesn't end. And another thing Europe thinks we're all nuts with the trademarked names and cultivar names for many new annuals, perennials and some trees and shrubs. Especially when the cultivar names are horrible like nursery abbreviations like 'Mongub' or evaluation numbering like 'Hegbuj4T333114'. I can no longer remember ridiculous and ugly sounding cultivar names for beautiful plants.

How can I nurture my sky pencil holly shrubs after my horse and my mule ate the tops off? I came home from work today and they ate 1/4 to 2/3 of each of my seven plants in my front yard. I bought these because the horticulturist said horses don’t like this shrub 🥲

I've grown many redbuds over decades and they mostly have all been good performers. I'll grow all but the weeping cultivars. Years ago someone asked me to transplant two 6" tall seedlings from his large tree. I said I'll dig them in fall or spring. The next day he yanked them out of the ground on a 90° day and brought them to me wilting in his hand. 8 years later they're taller than the 6-7' B&B and 15 and 20gal. trees planted the same year.

Good video but the music makes it hard to hear. I planted this tree September 2021 and unfortunately it lost a lot of needles last spring. It’s slowly recovering, but we have had very unusual weather.
